Which side panniers to buy?

I have a Yamaha Top case, but I do not want to buy Yamaha side panniers, because for money I can buy other ones.
I do not know which ones to buy, but would like the aluminum ones. Any suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks

Feel free to browse the threads here in this sub-forum, lot's of info on nearly every manufacturer of panniers. Myself, I went with SW-Motech racks with Wendell Cases (formerly Muffintop Industries), as it was the least expensive option at the time. Now, I might look at the Bumot or Holan setup, as they both tuck nicely into the bike.

one thing I found was that when I tucked in my Jesse Panniers too tightly that:

1. I couldn't use the lower seat position since the mounting rack interfered
2. The Altrider rack prevented me from moving the cases rearward
3. I couldn't use the Jesse-provided exhaust shield at that width
4. they were uncomfortable for my passenger in that position

Now - with the cases at the narrowest position with the grab handles still in place (at their narrowest I had removed the grab handles and the luggage tie-down loops) I think I have the best of all possible worlds. I use the Jesse Bags, Altrider rack and a Givi v47 (when I have a pillion). I can't imagine liking another case as much as I like my Jesse's (and I've had several bike with both OEM and aftermarket side cases).

Everyone will have an opinion but they are wrong. The hepco and Becker are the best. Don't bother reading reviews or scanning the forum. They are all wrong. Simple.

I've always to say something like that. Haha. Felt good :)

Thanks for that, squarebore.

BTW, you had a typo in your post, so I corrected it for you.

No thanks necessary, glad to help.

(that felt good too) :D

Haha, at least it was taken as the joke it was meant to be. But no really, HB are the best and I should know because they are the only ones I have tried. :)

Guls, I just posted my opinion on the other thread about what boxes to buy. I saw and bought the Jesse system after meeting Al and his wife at the rally in Arkansas. They arrived with every part and piece in place, fit beautifully on the bike, and I have found no one yet with a complaint about them. They are about the most expensive, but you get what you pay for, hold much more than the OEM, have better locks, they are just great. 'Nuff said . . . ;-)

1. you must decide on how much abuse you are going to level at them, what type of riding do you do?
2. it is usually a one time purchase so don't be cheap, the money you think you will save, will be spent double because of part failure.
3. if you have the top case, why not match things all round?

use the forum search, there are numerous threads and most have photos...

and as a side note, when you ride without the boxes, the Yamaha OEM System is the cleanest,
as in it doesn't like like a big 'ol mess of scaffolding, like those wagons down at the Home Depot, IMO.....

Micatech makes some mighty fine aluminum panniers. I would give them a look. R

If I buy any of the aluminum system like, Jesse, Nomad, etc. can I use them later on another bike like KTM or BMW. OR are these bike specific only.
Thanks

I looked at everything and decided on Givi trekker outback. They are really nice and will work on the next bike as well.

One thing to consider; do you want to easily be able to remove the box? Many sets are bolted to the racks and are not easily removable. That method of mounting bags does not make a lot of sense to me.

Question for the experts, but if the exhaust of the other bike is on the right then I assume an unmatched pair, 40L left and 45L right, would not work on the other bike? Or at least look really lopsided?

Not sure why I care, but I do not have panniers yet, but then again I do not plan to ever get rid of a Ténéré.

I had always wanted Jesse bags on several other bikes, but I just wouldn't part with the cash. When I made the decision to buy a Tenere I made up my mind right then and there, it was going to have Jesse bags on it. A lot of times buying the most expensive product is just being in a pissing contest, but I believe the Jesse bags really are the best of show in this game. And from what I've seen, if kept in good undamaged condition they hold their value too.

I almost know the Tenere bags will fit other bikes, but I don't remember which ones. I think they took a bag they already produced and made the Tenere bracket fit it. A quick call to Jesse would let you know.

I'll just go ahead and leave this right here. ;)

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have on BUMOT or Holan pannier systems for your Super Tenere. We've got posts in the Vendor forum at the links below:

BUMOT - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=11638.0
Holan - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6349.90

We typically have BUMOT in stock and it compares very favorably to other offerings...and their rack-mounted locking toolbox (keyed to match your panniers) is killer. Holan is a bit longer timeframe to get, but you can get options with Holan that you can't with BUMOT - stainless steel racks, natural aluminum finish, etc.

To elaborate a bit on Squarebore's wonderful, wonderful opinion. And since you were interested in aluminum panniers, here are what Hepco & Becker's Xplorers and Alu-Standards look like, respectively:

I had a Hepco Xplorer top box. Quite nice, but the hinge is made from plastic and they are known to fail. If that happens you're goosed. The standards are just tin boxes.

I have just ordered the Givi Outback top box. Panniers will be Bumot, but will be a while before I order those.
