Which seat to try when I upgrade?

I know seats are a very different animal from person to person, but I am hoping I can get a little feedback to guide my decision. For the record I am 6'3", 225lbs with a 34" inseam.

On the stck seat I get a sore bum after an hour or so - not my tailbone but more each cheek's pressure point, as it were.

Now I have to admit I don't care for the looks of the RDL seat, so I would like to try something else. I had a Sargent seat on my KLR, which was a big improvement over the stock seat. It was not magical, though.

What I am looking for is to be comfortable to about 2hrs on the bike, since I generally take a break a minimum of every 2hrs (most of the time sooner than that) and get off the bike to stretch, etc. I would like to get off the bike because I need to strecth, and not because my rear end is killing me AND I need to stretch.

I would like to know how some of you who have similar issues with their stock seats have made out with a Sargent, Corbin, or Saddlemen seats?

I have searched the forum and done some reading, so my apologies for ::002::

I had the Corbin on a 3 day trip , and it was way more comfortable than stock. Someone from this forum actually let me try it. I couldn't get used to the look though. I ended up with the Sargent, that looks much better IMHO and is also better than stock.
I still think the Corbin was slightly more comfortable for me. On a 400 mile day it felt bettor than a 400 mile day on my Sargent.
I still wouldn't buy it because of the looks.

I am not sure this is helpful, but that's my experience.

Seat Concepts. Had one on my 13 and now buying one for my 15. Great seat. But seat comforts vary from butt to butt. Haha

I have Seat Concepts on mine. It is better than the stock, and the Sergeant I had on it. But with my bony hind end, I am standing after about 3 - 4 hours. I am sure a RDL would solve my problems, but with the longest days being only around 300 miles, I just can't justify the price.

That's too bad you've eliminated the best seat only because of looks. It's one of the most important aspects of riding, and the funny thing is, you or no one else can see it when it's performing its job. I love my RDL, and in my opinion (and countless others), there is no comparison for all day comfort.

I don't have a RDL on my Ténéré but I did order one for my VStrom about 5 years ago and no doubt it was the best on road saddle I have ever owned. It truly is a day long saddle. My issues were with it Off Road. It's hard to get your legs over those wings in some Off Road applications. But if your not doing BDR's etc the RDL is probably the best bet. They aren't pretty on an ADV bike but they simply work.

Your butt has eyes?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;D Russell makes a Sport version of the RDL too that doesn't have as large of wings. It's something you should at least go look at the pictures of, if not consider. They have pictures in their gallery.

I have a Russell Day Long with about 75k miles on it. I ordered it mail order and it's my second for two different bikes, (FJR before the Super Ten). It's as comfortable today as it was 500 miles after it was new. I did an 1140 mile day on the 21st to ride up to the eclipse totality zone, watch the eclipse and ride back home. Zero butt issues. Or any other issues for that matter.

Check out Laam and other custom seat makers too.

::026:: on the Russell Day Long. It simply is the best solution in my opinion. I spent as much trying "cheaper" Seat solutions before finally pulling the trigger on a RDL. I was a slow convert. Looks don't bother me as comfort is far more important for an enjoyable ride. Terry's custom seats should be worth a look as well as other custom sites. I have no experience with them but I have heard good things. https://www.terryscustomseats.com/ Simply put , for me at least, Get the RDL.

Corbin, sheepskin, air hawk, then RDL. Absolutely no comparison, the RDL is by far the best. It looks like a tractor seat, but when you're sitting on it they all look the same. I cannot imagine anyone buying one, riding, then returning because it's ugly. It is so comfortable, you'll feel pettey for thinking it's ugly.

I get the impression the Russell Day Long seats are well liked (if I am reading this right) amongst forum members.

Haha......I am considering them now.

Anyoe have or seen the RDL "sport" version on a Tenere?

I have the Touratech Standard Comfort seat and it is very comfortable. Worth the money for me. Over 5k on it now and found it to be very durable too.

you mind posting a picture if you have time? How does it differ from the stock seat is it harder or softer?

Thanks!

Okay I guess I would ask you this - Is it comfortable for about 2hrs or more (to you)?

Thanks

5'10, 190, 32, no meat on backside. Sargent also. Works for me. Harder than stock. Took about 300 mi for me to get used to it (and break it in). Been sitting on it for 2.5 hr stretches now no problem. Order from Sargent, 30 day moneyback. I figured if it didn't work I'd go to the RDL, but no need.

Thanks zeek thats what I was looking for. I don't have a ton of natural paddding on the posterior either and I get sore on both cheeks after about an hour with the stock seat - I also feel it is too soft. Just need a seat to get me to the 2-2.5 hour mark between breaks.
