Woke up to a nice dry morning, on the task list for the day was to pick up some steak for dinner tonight. Seeing the weather, and having just mounted the OEM side cases, I put two and two together and decided to make a ride out of it. 4 hours and $175 later I had stocked the freezer. Headed out of Portland to the west to Carlton Farms, a local meat company well known for their pork products. They've got a retail store that has some pretty good prices. They are an hour away, and on the edge of the Tillamook state forest. I rode out, headed right past, played in the forest for two hours, then headed back to pick up some meat. Forest was fun, loving the Tenere on the forest roads. It's Elk hunting season, lots of folks out in their trucks, four wheelers, and even one dirt bike, all with a rifle at hand.
I've been running the top case for a bit over 1000 miles. After reading lots of reviews, I wasn't sure if I'd like the OEM stuff, but decided to try the top case. I was actually impressed. Yes, the locks are bit fiddly, and I have to pull the key. After a few rides it was no longer fiddly, just routine. I decided to pick up the side cases, put the mounts on last weekend. I really like all of them. The side case mounts are fine for about 90% of what I ride, the top case mount is really solid. I like the way the bags fit the bike. All of my latches are working great, hopefully that continues. I picked the liners for all the cases, a bargain, and unexpectedly nice. The cases are much stronger than I expected, I find them comparable to the OEM aluminium stuff I had on my BMW GSA. They seem a lot lighter, and at the same time seem stronger. I'm not expecting them to be drop worthy. Anyway, put 8 lbs of beef in the left one, 8 lbs of pork in the right, and slapped a 12 lb box of chicken up top. Didn't even know any of it was there. These cases are a bargain.
