Basic maintenance is one thing… clutch and CCT replacement may be more than I can or want to do
I have a 13’ with 17k and read all the threads about pressure plates, clutch upgrades and CCT issues. I also want to know more about suspension adjustments or upgrades
I am looking for a local mechanic in the DMV area or even PA. The reviews on local dealerships and motorcycle repair stores are full of terrible reviews
Anyone have any recommendations? Thank you

I also have a 13 ST with about 17k miles, but it was uncrated for me in 2016.

My plan is to have the valves adjusted and the cct replaced at 25k miles. The local yamaha dealer is the only shop for at least an hours ride so im at their mercy. Ill just have them do it, but i do everything else.

I'm considering Romney Yamaha in WV for valve adjustment. They have experience with S10s (assuming there isn't a big turnover in techs) and this job. I doubt the dealers around here to have even seen this motor before. Same for a local garage.

Clutch issues shouldn't be a problem for a local shop.

For opinions and advice like this (anything that's model specific), your local shop or dealer will have no clue. Ask here. Or, a *real* suspension shop. If you want to talk with one in person... Cogent in NC might be closest? ES vs Non would of course be a factor. Again, ask around here for success stories and ship your stuff out.

Suspension... what do you want to do with it? I did a Traxxion Dynamics suspension fork upgrade and took a lot of pics. Get a factory service manual and use their instructions too. Also look at my thread "What TenereGUY has been up to" very descriptive and has their instructions. Look at it and decide if it is something you can do. Good luck finding a good shop. Traxxion has some vetted shops they will recommend for installing their stuff too. Might be one near you.

My first valve check was done by a local shop recommended by a riding buddy. They left the crankcase breather hose disconnected sucking dirty air. That's when I decided to do my own. The only thing I've had done by a dealer since is the brake switch recall.

Cogent Dynamics is an excellent suspension shop, or at least they were when I had them replace a rear spring on my V-Strom in 2013. Norwest Suspension was another great place to do suspension business; they rebuilt the rear shock on my S10 to deal with loaded two up riding.

Take google reviews with a grain of salt. Keep in mind that the people most likely to write a review are the ones with a complaint. These forums are really one of the better places to ask for shop recommendations for whatever area you're in. You can also join a site like ADVRider, who have a section for bikes like the S10. That's a pretty active forum with a large membership, and you should be able to find guys in your area that can recommend a reliable place.

I would probably be okay with doing the valve check itself, but if any of the valves needed adjustment, I don't think I'd feel confident about doing that. It wouldn't make sense to do the check myself, find an issue, and then button it all back up to have a mechanic do it, so I just farm that task out. The valve check and a related CCT replacement have been the only tasks I didn't do myself. Up until I owned this bike I did very little of my own maintenance, but between the service manual, this forum, and the internet, I've done every maintenance and repair procedure on this bike except the aformentioned valve check/CCT replacement and the brake switch recall. I'm not a mechanic by anyone's definition, but I was still willing to tackle projects like this just from being on this forum:

A lot of the confidence to do that stuff came from the very helpful members on here.

This. And it's not just the task, it's the lack of any room in there to perform that task. I'm nearing 35K, doubt the PO did a valve check, and have a suspicion that I'm out of spec.
