Where do you mount your camera?

I'm new to this whole video thing, but I thought I would give it a try after finding a Go Pro at Costco for a price I couldn't refuse.

So the camera comes with a bunch of nifty mounting plates, including a curved one for helmets, a flat one for flat surfaces, and a strap mount for none of the above. My question is, where does one mount the camera for some of the best ride video? I'm considering using the flat mount on the lid of the left pannier. Any help or opinion is appreciated. Thanks! --Gene

That's where I mounted mine and the view is a good one. IMHO it's interesting to see the suspension working and a bit of the rider. The cam would be more stable on the tank or something less wiggly than the bags (I have the Yam luggage) but I haven't found another view that's better.

Make sure it fits firmly in the slide-in mount or you'll get an annoying clicking sound as it rattles around in there. A little piece of tape usually does the trick to firm it up.

I've installed the mounting hardware on several sites on the bike. Although the top box (Yammie) gives a nice perspective, it also rattles as mentioned previously. The OEM crash bar (lower left side) is an alternative, although certain revs give a vibration to the image. I've installed a seat-post/handlebar mount on de left bar end weight, and added a regular tripod mount on top. Forward and rearward facing gives great pictures! And you can operate the GoPro (pretty fiddly in its casing) and rotate it on the fly!

mine is mounted on the left hand mirror riser

it is nice and solid. I don't experience any vibration and videos from this mounting point give a nice perspective

I have 1 M8 Ram Mount ball as 1 of the screws of my handlebar.
The plus is that it turns with the handlebar and it doesn't vibrate as much.
Downside is that you see reflections in the windscreen and as soon as bugs get squashed it starts focusing on the windscreen:

Test op onverhard

This weekend I attached a new one at the front of my left engine guard. This is the view from there:

XT1200Z Ram Mount Test

Downside is that there's more vibration there.

This is a good thread! ::008::

I have two Contour cameras and I'm hunting for some good locations. The videos are of great help!

I have a Contour Roam that is mounted on a ram mount with a six inch arm. The base in on the handlebars between the clamps, this prevents any bar vibration. I tilt it forward a bit and it sits right in the middle of the dash so that it doesn't block any important info. The shield protects the camera lens from bugs and debris. Rock solid mount.

Here's another one mostly demonstrating the bar-end weight position (and how you can film yourself):

I used this tripod mount:

And attached it to this:

I like what I saw in your video, Mark. I think the bar end position offers the best vantage point for the type of video I would like to shoot. Thanks!

I like to move the camera around the bike.

Crash bars.

Read foot peg.

Sometimes helmet mounted.

Always controlled by the remote control that came with the Drift 170 Stealth camera.
