Has anyone using the Whisper Lite International with motor fuel gasoline had any problems with the jets clogging or dirty /
sooty burning?

Ditto.
Made coffee for anyone\everyone that wanted at the rally and the extended vacation.

4 jars of instant, 2 boxes of Nescafe, and a box of cuppocino.
Fast, like you said. And just finished off 1 fuel canister.

Really nice kit.

yes. You will need to carry a piece of wire to clean it. Soot is only when you first light it and if you use it for a while, it will all burn off.

My rents gave my wife and I a Biolite stove for Christmas with the grill and pot accessory. I have only used it at home a couple of times, and there is a little put of an operator learning curve but we really like it.

Can't wait to try it out this summer on a camping trip. It will be nice to not have to carry a propane bottle, however with my Jesse Safari 11", I can carry just about anything.

That Biolite stove looks interesting. Did I read the description correctly - it runs off twigs and boils water while it charges your iPhone???

What if the twigs are wet, or there are no twigs??? Also looks big and heavy. The charging feature is a cool idea but seems a little gimmicky.

I'll stick with my Whisperlite and carry fuel.

Living in Seattle, its awfully wet this time of year, two of the three times I fired it, I fired it with wet twigs, the third time I fired it with wood pellets from my smoker. This stove is too fictional to be a gimmick. Boiled water in a few min, and the grill attachment is awesome. Having the ability to charge ones phone or camera, or iPod, while cooking is just an added bonus.

Certainly not as convent as carrying a can of fuel… As for weight, I don't find it any heavier than having to carry a stove with fuel. granted the fuel weight does get burned off. I wouldn't hesitate to back pack with this thing, as for motorcycling, I am not very concerned with weight.

Didn't mean to slam the stove. It seriously intrigues me - basically whether or not it can compete with more conventional and simpler stoves on its merits vs. some other criteria, such as "being green". It's competitive price-wise, so it's just a question of performance. I love the innovation. May have to get one just to play with it.

I'm very much a capitalist. For example, I won't take the plunge into solar power until it can compete without government subsidies. When it gets to that point I'll be all over it. Same with this stove. If it works as well as my Whisperlite while being "greener" then I'm on board, even it's a little bulkier.

MSR Reactor for me. Sadly my riding partner on a GSA in a recent trip to Alaska challenged me for a dual vs his little Jetboil....we placed both our fuel systems side by side and filled both pots one third with water. Stoves were ignited at the same time, water started boiling in the MSR in 1min 21 sec....took 2 minutes for the Jetboil to boil... My buddy was so jealous that he went to buy a MSR the next day. The bottom of the MSR pot is designed to wrap the stove creating a wall around it and protecting from the wind. Being enclosed caused more heat to reach the pot hence why food and liquid are boiling faster...

Anybody remember the old Instaflam one burner backpack units that were made in France? Hi quality stuff,
packed small but big on heat. Too bad the gaz cartriges went obsolete. Had one for decades now. Lucked out
on Ebay a couple years ago & found a seller with some leftover cases of cartriges so I bought one. Good to go for
years to come, wish Id have speculated & bought all those cases.... the hindsight thing. ::010::

Check Big-5 Sporting goods, they still carry Campingaz cartridges including the 206 puncture type.

Gaz stuff would still be around if it was not for Coleman buying them out in the States and discontinuing the stoves and lanterns.
Colman is stilll selling the gas, Campingaz is still selling well in Europe.

I have one of these and it works as well as the Classic Primus stove, has a good wide base for pots and wider flame>>

I also use one of these for day trips or overnighters or with MRE packs, canned food or dehydrated packs for longer tours.>>

Along with a Stanley Camp cup, (can get at Wally World for $15.00) if your going to cook food in it such as Soup, Stew and such your going to need a long spoon to turn it before you burn it> http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Adventure-Stainless-Steel-24-Ounce/dp/B005188T90

One of the green cups, stove and this fits together in the pot, I bring a folding spork that fits as well> http://www.snowpeak.com/gigapower-fuel-110-gold-gp-110g.html

It all fits together like this and takes little space boils in around 5 to 6 minutes depending on wind block and outdoor temps.>

Another i use for long Solo road trips for cold and higher altitude due to the vapor tube you can invert the can and burn liquid or attach this to a primus pump and an MSR can with white gas.

(note pumping white gas into this unit is a little tricky as it has no place to fill primer fluid in; Also this is mainly used with canister cartridges and does not have a cable in the vapor tube like White gas stoves to clean carbon build up, so just emergencies I would pump gas into it but it does work.)..
Other bug out size kits using Sievert 123 stoves and a Campingaz Globe trotter pot kit.

And no i don't drink lots of Crown!! ;)
Found the neoprene fabric Ipad bag at Dollar Tree!!

::026:: on the MSR Reactor. Best piece of camping equipment I own. One thing though, all I use it for is to boil water, which it does amazingly quickly. When camping I do porridge in the morning and freeze dried at night. No mess, no fuss. One canister of fuel will last two full weeks..

But every once in a while I do this on the campfire. You can't beat this stuff when camping!

Cheers, David

I have a JetBoil and its great for boiling water. Have yet to try the frying pan for cooking but will soon.

I recently bought a Biolite with the grill top. Much different experience, though works very well. Just gotta be prepared with wood to feed the fire. But being able to charge electronics while you cook is kinda handy. Easy set up, and its always satisfying to get a fire lit... and keep it lit.

For wood I bought a bag of apple wood smoking chips and split a few up. Worked perfectly and the area smelled great the entire time. :)

A cheap burner that screws onto the top of coleman propane bottles. Instant heat and propane bottles available almost everywhere.

Thanks for the lead on that Ramsey. I had literally scoured the 'net back when I found that case of cartriges
& every source claimed 'no longer available at this time/discontinued'. Considered myself lucky to find that
stash on ebay. The folks across the pond must have woke up to how popular the stuff still is, shows how
durable those little cookers are.
