I have changed handlebars and have less room between the bend and bar end. Steve's mod was a good option and is working well. Ir has been 800 miles to BMS and back and 300 miles to TechSpec and return. Works good and calms the left mirror a bit..
Tomato. what kind of bars did you install? you have pics?

ProTaper Contour Raptor. I will have to take some photo's. The concern with these handlebars is space in the middle of the bars is wider than the OEM bars and it is very tight to mount the hardware. Other than that they are aluminum bars with a flatter bend and a higher rise.

Ordered Yamaha wind deflectors, top box and top box inner bag. Went for a short ride.

I'm doing the 4K service this weekend...rode the FJR yesterday for a change, did a bit over 430 miles. I'm planning on doing an SS1000 soon, and will be taking the ST, as since both my bikes have stock saddles, the ST is much more comfortable for me.

Thanks Tmator! I had the same bars on my DL1000. Love to see pics.

Weather is utter shite, so no riding today - I did go shopping for my Tenere though. Got a couple of oil filters and some Mobil One for my fluid exchange coming up rapidly at four thousand miles.

Stopped by the local Yammy dealer to pick up a couple of oil filters, etc... Since there was a torrential pour underway and I didn't feel like stopping again, I asked if they sold Mobil 1 10w-40...
"You want synthetic?"
'Yeah...'
"You know the only benefit of synthetic is they don't punch a hole in the ground to get it, right?"
'Ummm... okay... do you sell it?'
"No, but you don't need it, and it could cause warranty issues if you have engine problems"
??? 'Look, man I've been in the car biz for 15+ years and have seen the difference between engines that had synth or dino - I just prefer it'
"But the technology is different between cars and motorcycles"
::010:: 'Okay - you don't sell synthetic, I get it; could I get the filters and crush washers?'

Really wasn't looking to start a real-life oil thread, just wanted to pick up a couple of filters... Then I got home to find that he sold me four washers for the final drive, not the oil pan... ::010::

What a dealer! Did you double check to make sure he sold you the correct oil filters?

Had the steering stem torque checked at Roseville Yamaha. It was loose so they corrected it. Frontend feels stable on on a windy I-80.

A few weeks ago I was backed into by a pickup and my front fender was broken. I had PCP Yamaha complete a safety check and install a new fender. They found the forks to be a little bit not true so they adjusted them. Since then I had experienced a buzz in the mirrors when riding unfinished concrete. Guess the safety check was not so safety oriented if they did not properly torque the steering stem.

Tough dealer.. Seem like they don't know much.
You can use the same crush washer more then once. I have over 8k and still have the same ones that it came with and multiple oil changes.

I did nothing to either S10, but I did pay someone to do some work on them. That just doesn't happen in my world, but damn, I could get used to this. There were a few things like the steering tube that I didn't fully understand so I wanted a knowledgeable person to take the first look at it. While he was at it I had him address a long list of other items.

It was well worth it because he did identify a few other things I would have missed, or never even looked for. I doubt I'll make a habit out of someone else working on the bikes for routine things, but don't regret having a set of more knowledgeable eyes looking at it and giving me knowledge I didn't have when the day started.

As always, the service at Romney in WV was absurdly over the top excellent. Hard to imagine that 20 months ago I'd never even heard of them. Now I go in and feel like family. Big thumbs up to the way they run a dealership.

What did I do to my Tenere today? NOTHING GOOD!
I got into a rock infested 4-wheel drive of a road (which said I would not get into) and flipped a rock up and cracked the plate on the bottom of the engine.  ::010::
Now I wish I'd installed a skid plate. I was able to ride it home, 100 miles or so, while it dripped oil the whole way. I added a pint of oil part way home - now I wait for a new part to arrive from Japan. ::017::

The plastic OEM pan didn't catch the hit then. You'll have to post a picture in all it's glory of what not to do...

You, guys are so lucky to have knowledgable people working on your bikes. One of mine wanted to blackmail me in to buying bike from them (if you don't buy from us, you will be last on the list in our service dept). Another one wanted to lubricate chain on my bike for 600 mile servise. :D I'm so jealous :'(
