You guys in Texas get to ride all year round I'm thinking about putting my bike to bed ️
True but summer riding is not the best. Have to go out early and be back by 11am or you're riding in 105F (40C and humid). Not the most enjoyable that is why winter riding here is the best. I lived in MA for 14 years and know how it sucks to put the bike away Dec - April.

Trued the front wheel. Lateral run out was 2.5 mm. Spec is less than 2.0. Got it down to 0.5. It's been a long time. I used an old Yamaha dial gage from the 70's I used to use for measuring TDC.

I had a real issue getting my axle out today. Sheared off a 1/2" 3/8" adapter. Finally broke loose with a 1/2" breaker bar and a 5' pipe. Not sure what was going on. Everything looked good going back together.

Yeah, but we do pay for it from June to October. That being said, riding in 60° temps in January is kinda cool. I don't ride below 40° and still have a 12-month season.

I love my seasons and everything about them.
Riding the bike all year round sound great but not at the lost of not having my seasons.
Right now the tree colors are fantastic, going for the last rides before putting her away and looking forward to winter when the air is clear and crisp.
It will be a relieve from smoky skies, fires and tourist plague.

What does out of spec “true” cause? Does it lead to a front wheel feeling like a wheel out of balance? How is “true” achieved? Is it by tightening and loosening spokes in order to re-align the wheel within itself?
This might be something I’ll need doing over the winter months, as I have an odd front wheel wobble/shake feeling. Had it balanced and rebalanced, had new wheel bearings and fairly recently did the head bearings, so it’s unlikely any of those.

Wheel rebuilding and trueing is something I have no knowledge of, any help/tips/insight is much appreciated.

TIA
Boris

Ive never trued my wheels but i did tighten the spokes in the recommended pattern.

Spoke adjustment:

Spec: 53 inch pounds = 6 newton meters.

Needs a 4.5” (min!) ball end hex driver and torque wrench that does 53 inch pounds.

Procedure:

Label the 8 hub pairs on each wheel, sequentially, 1-8. As a pair, torque all four spokes to spec, then rotate hubs: 1,5,3,7,2,6,4,8

Test rode it this morning. Wow, what a difference! My cruising speed handle bar shakes are gone. If you have any annoying shakes, check your lateral run out!

@ErictheBiking what size tire did you use since the 175's can't be found anymore? 195/55-17?
205/45-17. Heaps to choose from in this size. I was concerned about the width but plenty of Vstrom riders use the 205.
195/55 hard to find here.
I went with the 45 profile to lower the gearing for the sidecar. Plenty of 205/55-17 here.
I have now travelled 2500km with no issues.
Had to have a new brake stay made [see pic]. No engineers report but has to much stronger than the original.

Made a effort to get my bike to idle right and come off idle like it should. I tried syncing throttle bodies last week. Didnt help. This week i started experimenting. My throttle plates were never controlled right at closed throttle and just off closed. I could see the plates jumping there even though i was not doing that with the throttle. So i tested both the throttle position sensor and the throttle accelerator sensor. My analog simpson 260 needed batteries so i used my fluke 87. I do not like checking pots with digital meters analog is the only way to test them but they looked good. No bad spots at closed throttle. So now the experiment. Already tried moving the throttle position pot that just made it run crazy. So today i moved the throttle position accelerator. The closed settings on D14 trouble shooting was 16 Open was 100. D15 closed was 17 open was 101. I moved it to D14 17 closed 102 open. D15 closed 18 open 102. These settings kept the throttle plates from closing all the way where my issue was. So far one 25 mile test ride it feels great! Of course it is cool here and the bike always ran better in cool and even better in cold temps so i will hold off on saying success yet. Decel feels a lot better. I tested a few stops and starts to see if the old hiccup or stumble or low idle was still there and it did feel great! Also while i was in there i released tension on the throttle spring some more. I trapped it between the locating tab and upper screw on the throttle cable bracket. It is very light and smooth! I love that. I also added spacers to the front of my seat to level it more than just pulling spacers out of the back. Love that too! I also had to make a tool to adjust the sensor. I ground a socket down shallow then cut an adaptor off that goes in a nut driver handle then taped a small wrench on it all. Worked perfect and easy! It is idling much better that crazy throttle starting out is much better the bike is super smooth and pulls out of corners like it should! Of course i have new tires on it not worn out knobbies. That is probably the smooth im feeling. Haha. I will try this a while to see if it actually helped.

And what sensations did you feel in those 2500 km?

I really should try your throttle tension adjustment, throttle on both Tenere’s i have owned have always seemed annoying with to much tension.
