Was tearing the forks down to replace the seals... then I found out that I think I got the wrong seals. SKF KITG-43K Green.
Everything was fine until I tried to put in the retaining clip. Nope, not enough clearance between the seal as the green seals have an extra spring on a raised lip. Argh...

Yes, the same thing happened to some other user, with a new S10. I don't remember him reporting the cause. But, either something large loose hit it from the inside...or the crashbar, when twisted, produces fatigue in the material near it. I think what you see in the hole is the exhaust valve knob.

Finally built an aluminum pillion rack fitted for Rotopax cannisters. I cut slots all around the perimeter for luggage straps for other luggage situations. This one is smaller in overall dimensions that what others have used, as the piece I had was smaller to begin with. Thanks to Mak10 and others who previously provided hole and fastener spacing and dimensions.

Also made and installed a set of side support brackets to stiffen up a Madstad windscreen. I bought some aluminum flat stock, cut and bent to fit.

Please don't mind the dust everywhere as the garage is also used for woodworking, metalworking and numerous other things.

I recently had my air filter and 4 sparkplugs changed - any chance that this could be related to the change in spark plugs?
I doubt that a spark plug or air filter change caused the damage. The valve cover is not removed for either plugs or filter. Hopefully, your dealer and Yamaha can sort it out for you for minimal or no cost.

Today I'm having the bike towed to my dealer - my Engine valve cover blew a hole ! (see pictures)

The incident happened after +/- 175 Km into a 500 Km ride, i had stopped at a gaz station to fill up an upon leaving the station I saw a lot of smoke coming form down under so I immediately pulled over. I immediately called my wife who came to the rescue and my brother in law who helped get someone to two the bike back home.

During the wait I met up with an individual on a KLR who helped my diagnose the problem (his the one who found the whole on the engine cover. Prior to the incident the bike was running like usual - smooth as butter and when the incident occurred I did not hear anything only saw the smoke coming from the engine bay!

I AM IM TOTAL SHOCK !

1) Imagine if this happened on a trip ?
2) Have anyone seen/heard of something like this happening ?
3) Any idea what could have caused this ?

The kicker in all of this is that my warranty just expired +/- a month ago, not sure how this will be dealt with on the repair side - all I want is that the bike be repaired properly and it be like new again !
How many miles total on your S10 and has it ever had the valve clearances checked?

Whisper 18200 KM valves have not been checked or touched - i believe their due at 30K KM ?
Which tells me that the valve cover has not been off since new. It will be interesting what broke…..it seems unlikely that the hole was caused from something external although I hit a goose which punched a small hole in the inner fairing/electrical panel on my 2021 S10.

Not that much, sticker shows 1 gallon. So only 1 gal gas and 1 gal water (white). So I would guess he's going camping. I have the same setup.

Exactly this. I also use the water container when I go on trips in the car. We have good water here in the country and when I travel into the city I bring some. The roropax are nice and slim, easy to pack and make hauling water easy.

Step # 1 done bike was dropped off at dealer yesterday just met with them and the conversation was very cordial/professional they will open up the bike to try and find out what went wrong ?
The mechanic who looked at my bike was extremely surprised by the breakage once diagnosed they will a report to Yamaha for their input and subsequent steps.

I got round to making and fitting some handguard extenders courtesy of Jiivee’s template that he recently made available

The bloke I bought my bike from had taken the originals off & swapped them over to BarkBusters but my delicate little pinkies still got cold in the mornings during winter here (yeah, yeah… I know… “winter” in Queensland is like summer in many other places…)
Anyway, BarkBusters make a full enveloped cover that really works a treat.

That's right, y'all are coming out of Winter right now. Those are great for keeping the fingers warm and toasty. Yeah, our winters aren't much of a winter compared to most of the country; 12-month riding season. I can get away with my summer gloves and grip heaters for 99% of my riding. When it's too cold for that, my candy ass takes the Jeep.

We had snow on the ground for 6 months of the year this last season.
