Johnny Park ,CO exacted a bit of a toll on me last night. My dad was born in 1914 and was a 2nd generation well driller in the KY coal belt. I still have an old anvil that comes in handy on occasion.

Tangent story:
Dad had 2 sledge hammers when I was a teen (early 70s) I lost one on the job site. I never will forget his look if disdain and heartbreak as he said to me "My father made his living with those hammers". I still have the other hammer and it will remain with me until I am composted.

3rd photo was taken in 1910. My grandfather (far left, little guy always climbed up on stuff for photo op) and his crew transporting Manila drilling cable through Mississippi.

Pulled the shift lever off and greased it. Night and day. I need to go through everything. Bike only has 2k miles on it in 10 years so the grease is all thick and sticky. Kickstand hardly works too.
Best thing I did though was tilt the hand bars back to reduce the angle on my hands and aim the headlights correctly. Gotta love free mods. I was actually surprised how good the headlight was once properly adjusted. I do think that the high beam is a little too high when the low beam is perfect and you can't split the difference because the low beam has such a sharp cut off.
Any who.... excellent.

Yeah, but he has the Kancamagus Hwy and the Dragon's Tail. He's doing ok. But yeah, the West definitely has its charms.
Makes me sad too. Hopefully I’ll get it out there at some point. Some of those mountain roads are amazing.
Go ride hurricane mountain road off 16 outside North Conway, NH. If you go over the Kanc to bear notch rd, the on 302 take west side road to North Conway and then go over Hurrican Mtn Rd to Robins Hill and 113 its a good ride. Take rt 2 over towards 16 and north towards Errol along the Androscoggin River. Good fishing and a good ride.

Miss it up that way. I may live in CO but my heart will always be in the white mtns.

The east has some amazing roads, the west has amazing roads. I’m just happy to be in the United States exploring this amazing country on two wheels.
I often hear people criticising the USA for one reason or another- & it annoys the crap out of me because they’re often people who’ve never been there.
I think it’s fantastic that there’s people on this forum who aren’t afraid to be proud of their country & what it has to offer!

I really enjoy every place I have ridden my bike. I think every single place has its own appeal and attractions that peak my interests. I will never be a world traveler but the USA has so many different areas that if you keep your mind open to the possibilities for learning and enjoying it is just like traveling across the world. I live in the east and love to ride west because the fact is I just don't have that opportunity very often and it is always sort of a rush for me to get back to work on time. I do love the east and the Appalachian Mountain area that basically stretches the entire east from North to South is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in pictures or real life. Yes incredible riding as well!

Oh, we have plenty to criticize, and I do. Used to be a better place, but I still love my country.

I always assume that everybody loves their individual home countries. I'd love to visit many other countries, but don't imagine I would live anywhere else but here.

Had I visited Australia when I was younger, I’d probably be living there now. I visited in 2016, 18, 19 & 22 for a total of 15 weeks, something just clicked for me, I absolutely love it there (except for the mullets). I’ve done most of the east coast and the Great Ocean Road and driven inland through Lamington NP, through NSW and into Victoria, avoiding the major routes. Lots around the Brisbane area. After my last trip, I thought I was done with it, but I feel a need to visit Western Australia and Tasmania down south. I’ve only driven there , not ridden, but for road riding I think Europe has much more to offer. Off road, a whole different world.

Having said that, I’m not unhappy with Britain and Europe.
