Just finished installing my Centech AP-2. Thanks to Phil (Firefight911) for his post; I pretty much copied his installation.

Decided to do some rock-crawling w/S10 yesterday in OK near my parents place. Well, I didn't plan on it, but came up on a river bed that just kept getting worse 'til I was in a 1/2 mile of helmet sized rocks. I learned my lesson and will turn around next time, but some lessons are not as easy to learn - dropped it twice before going down a road that 'looked' hard packed and ended up being loose dirt sand and downhill.. lol, another hour trying to get the bike turned around before I was out of that stuff.

So, what did I do to my bike? LOL

1st off, got rid of this annoying part, the placement was a bit off anything, I always use the end of the side stand instead of this thing. While rock crawling, it bent upward and when I got home I tried to bend it back 'snap' oh well, never used it.

Got a couple real good hits on the altrider skid plate, it did a great job:

The altrider crash bars did a great job as well.

Got rid of this useless touratech kick stand pad, don't waste your money on that one,

Got a couple scratches on the side case but looks like no damage other than that.

I had the gopro going but it was suction cupped to the fairing and there was tons of shaking even going down easy roads to I'm running it through some image stabilization software to see if that produces something useful.

All in all, not bad for my 1st real adventure off road. A few novice mistakes but hopefully some valuable experience acquired. I'll post a vid later when I get it cleaned up.

She's officially broken in.. LOL

The first thing I did, ride 200 miles :) and killed a bird. :( First kill this year and I hope it is not a sign of things to come. :D

When I got home, put the ALTrider bash plate on. Took awhile, did not have a correct bolt and of course no torque specs.
In case someone else needs them,, kickstand hex bit bolts,,46lb. Right side lower engine mount,, 49lb.

I have been busy over the last couple of days.....I work real slow, check, double check, measure twice, route all wiring just so, then remove and sheath in anti-abrasion coverings and heat-shrink the ends, crimp and heat-shrink all connectors, etc...takes time, lots of time but I usually end up without any issues...being in the aviation industry will do that to you!

So anyway, I finished up the installation of my Instrument Shelf with two Powerlet outlets (1 switched power, 1 always hot), TrailTech Air temperature gauge and voltmeter. I also completed the hookup of the dual FIAMM horns in their 'stealth' location and wired in a relay to power then from the FZ-1 fuseblock (did not want all the horn current going thru the horn button).

In the afternoon I finished up wiring in the FZ-1 Fuseblock and installing the SpeedoHealer.

Tomorrow I tackle the Vista Cruise!

Last week I got my Pelican 1550 top case installed and wired. It has a running light/ brake light mounted underneath it as well as 12V sockets inside for charging on the fly.
On Saturday I left with a group of local ADV guys for a ride/ camp up the lakeshore of west Michigan. It was a nice scenic ride, we even saw a blue Tenere! (not sure if they're on here as we were going the opposite direction).

I've got 2000 miles on the bike so far and it has been great! ::013:: I leave in a week for a trip around Lake Superior, I can't wait.

Damn, that is a clean install! I didn't realize there was enough room up there for the FZ-1, thanks for posting the pics!. A re-wire may be in my future as well.

The covering is officially called 'Expandable Sleeving' and is available in many different materials (hi-temp, flame retardant), colors and sizes.

For automotive use, this is what I use:

http://www.techflex.com/catalogpages/CleanCut.pdf

and I buy it from Digikey in 100 foot rolls for $42:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?lang=en&site=US&KeyWords=1030-1041-ND&x=0&y=0

This is available in 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" - these are nominal sizes.

Since this is 'expandable' the 3/8" sleeving will expand up to 5/8", so this is the size I mainly use. I use heat-shrink on the ends to prevent the ends from over-expanding and fraying.

It is also available from Parts-Express in 25 foot rolls as well for $11:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=082-336

Hope this helps!

Went out to do some adjustments and clean up after my good dual sport ride the other day and discovered that I will not be going off road again until my skid plate arrives. I put a good dent in my oil filter!!! DOH!!!!!

My Touratech Brake Pedal Extender showed up tonight. The awesome new roll cage I ordered for my jeep wrangler showed up tonight too, but I’ll spare you the details on that one. I saw this brake pedal extender in one of Wasp’s threads and thought it looked to be a big improvement over the stock. Tale of the tape…it increases the length of the stock pedal from 23mm to 43mm (from the longer, motorcycle side) and the width from 30mm to 40mm. Not bad, I like this gadget.
