I also have the Givi outback top box, and agree that it is a great box.

I also experience the rattle that you refer to and think that it originates from the two top/side strapping bars as they seem loose in their fittings.

I'm wondering if I apply a small amount of silicone to the areas where the bars enter their securing brackets, if that will that sort out the problem....the rattle is quite noticeable

BTW I have used the higher profile buffers on the mounting plate
I saw the posts about those bars, though I can rotate them they don't seem loose enough to rattle. I was thinking a little thin epoxy, allowed to wick into the junctions might stop it if that's indeed the source. I'm going to try strapping a short bungee cord between them as a test.

With respect to the buffers, I wonder if Givi has changed something?. I was up on a step stool pressing down on the case to the point I was tipping the bike back on the rear wheel and compressing the suspension (I feared pushing it off the center stand to push much harder) and I could not bring the rear catch close enough to "clack" in. The lower profile ones took about the same amount of force to latch as the Givi E460 I have on my ST1300. Maybe it's specific to the plate I used?? Dunno, but it was not going to go with the higher bumpers in there.

Changed the rear drive lube Sunday evening, used Maxima racing synthetic 75-90. Had to be creative to find a way to get the new lube in the rear drive unit. Anyone have a way to do this cleanly and efficiently?
Not familiar with that brand, but many auto parts stores sell pumps that screw into the top of the jug/bottle and have a hose on the end to fill transmissions & diffs, etc. Usually pretty cheap.

Mustard/ketchup/relish bottle, like you would use for a picnic. Cost was $1 and works perfectly.

I use just a funnel with 4 inch tube jammed onto the bottom of it. Wrap some silicone tape around it to hold it on long term. Been using that for years.

I usually get the gear oil bottle that has a nozzle tip on it already. I've never even thought about buying gear oil that doesn't come with the tip. I may actually have some extra nozzle screw caps from work, all our stuff comes with the nozzle tip.

The buffers that were supplied with my Trekker top box were indeed larger/taller than the ones they replaced (Monokey) and like yourself it was initially difficult to snap the box onto the plate after fitting them, but they have bedded in now and don't present such a problem anymore ::008::

Stretching a bungee or something similar across the two bars will help to determin if they are to blame for the rattle, as a point of interest I don't think the rattle is present when I have my Givi maxia box fitted

I'll be checking out the top bars as they are a sloppy fit on my top box :) :)

The bungee strap tensioned between those horizontal bars didn't affect the rattle. I can only hear it at speeds less than 40 MPH and the box empty. Smacking at the box when I got home the noise seems to come from the latch mechanism and the forward mounting slots. I applied a little silicone grease to the forward pegs and to the rubber bumpers (mostly I do this to stop them sticking to the bottom of the case, getting pulled out of the plate and disappearing) this morning about 75% of the noise is gone (no bungee between the horizontal bars this morning). The remaining noise seems to be coming from the lower latch mechanism that holds the box to the mounting plate.

Can't hear it at normal riding speeds, so I don't think I'm going to worry about it too much. I do like this case though!

Thanks for the info...I haven't had chance to ride out today, I'll now check the lower latch mechanism

Agreed....the case is very good

The last couple of top cases I've had have had some slop on the front or rear, I'll take some 3m trim tape and build it up where the slop is and leave the red part on the last level to help create some tension and a more secure feeling without the noise.

Replaced my Oem rear shock with a Matris. Remote preload, and compression damping, then fitted the brackets to hold the reservoir and know, and wanted to bend one bracket slightly back, grabbed the reservoir and pushed slightly, only to have the tube connecting to it swing out, and also undoing the nut connecting the tube, and discharge before my eyes.... My service centre is 4000 km away.. How embarrassing. Now I will have to ring them and then send it back.

Installed a Fenda Extenda. The little plastic push rivets they come with are pretty slick and give a more finished appearance than the screws they used to use.

Changed the tires. The bridgestones were shot after 20000km. Got some nice e07s now. The rear was a real bugger to change.

Are these the original tires? If so you got 12,427 miles (20000 km) Battlewing BW 502 Radial E ?

I am thinking E07 after the original tires if they make 8,000 miles.

Those are the ones. I'm not very hard on tires, and pretty ocd about tire pressure. If it wasn't for the front cupping badly I would have squeezed out another 2/3000.

Changed the Oil, washed it and pounded my happy trails rack mounting points back straight after the last little crash in Crested Butte last month!
Seems I burned a bit of oil like half quart or so within the last 3k miles on my three Colorado trips.
Can't understand it showed over half or more in my window on the center stand. :-\
35k on the bike she runs smooth as glass.

My Screaming Banshee horn failed a evening ago so spent Sunday checking all the wiring and fuses. Always fun to work in a hot garage in Florida. Found nothing wrong with the fuses and wires. Pulled off the horn and separate air pump. Pump seems to pump out little air when hooked up to Screaming Banshee control unit. Pump connected directly to battery seems to work put gets hot very fast. Horn itself seems to have some restriction but not sure what is normal ... sending message to Screaming Banshee ... bike is not back together (outside the horn and pump) and ready to ride ...

Update

Contacted Greg at Screaming Banshee and he send out a replacement unit (1 day fast delivery). I installed the new mono system (replacing the split system) and all works great. It is refreshing that a company stands so strongly behind their customers. Love the product and the great customer service ...
