Removing the Altrider skidplate has become routine for oil changes. The initial install was far more trying than subsequent remove/replace. The only difficult part is the 2 little bolts/washers/nuts on the upper right corner. A magnet on an extendable rod is part of my oil change tool kit. I can barely locate those nuts & washers with my fingertips, so I usually drop them and they land on the skidplate.

I tried doing an oil-only change with the skidplate on, but the mess was harder for me to deal with than plate R/R. It takes about 5-6 minute to take it off or put it on. Just do it. After a couple of times, you'll be good at it.

<snip> Altrider. Nice kit. Although, I may never change the oil filter on this thing..! it took me a full two hours to fit the sump guard, and it needs to come off every time to change the filter <snip>

Reassuring to know.
I don't think I could live with the oily mess on the plate either...
I was thinking of welding the nuts in place on the brackets. What do you think?

Cheers,

After doing what i figured i would not do, and hit the squadrons off the front fender, i did the mounting bracket mod and put them higher and further apart.

i also installed all of this

And with a 8.7% correction dialled in, my speedo and gps now agree....gear indicator is mostly for show but i figured ide install it as the speedo healer was 90% of the work done anyway, and it will keep me from occasionally trying to shift into 7th gear.

finished off with throwing a few decals i had on the top cases.

that ait up all the sun, and its been raining ever since.

This weekend I finally used my S10 as God and Yamaha intended! My friend with a '14 F800GS and I headed out on a 250 mile ride in Northern New Mexico that included 2 track trails, fire roads, soft sand , gravel roads, twisty mountain roads, etc.. IT WAS AWESOME!

The bike did everthing we asked of it including crashing over some big rocks, smacking deep ruts at speeds we shouldn't have been going, very small water crossing, etc. Only thing that REALLY sucked was about 7 miles of road with deep silty sand covering it. As soon as I hit it the front end would want to wash out. A dozen times I thought I'd bit it and two of those I have no idea of how I recovered. One problem was my stock street oriented tires. I'll definitely be going to K60's before my next trip. I hope that helps.

Here's our basic route although we deviated from it around Chicoma Mountain because my GPS power connector crapped out. We ended up heading north after the mountain towards Abiquiu Reservoir.

Installed a Madstad and MRA Vario screen on the wife's Tenere. I've always had a Wasp adjuster and Vario on mine, wife has always had stock. I'm really pushing to make her as comfy as possible (max comfy, max riding), so I took off my screen the other day and did some testing with her. She agreed it made a big difference, but needed a tad more to make it perfect...enter the Madstad. Let the testing and adjusting begin.

Tried to get in that way once, the severe wash board turned me back... LOL, that was twenty years ago though. The wash board still there?

Yup, real tough duty. ::025:: I'm heading to San Candido, Italy tomorrow on my Duc for the annual European Multistrada Meet.
There were a couple of guys selling wursts, we ate at a Pizzeria.
I'll be in Europe for a few more years, maybe our paths will cross.

I welded the two nuts nearest the filter to the plate.

Keep an eye open for a BMW gray F800GT US plate "EATN PIE". I'll gladly buy you and your military friends a bier or three!
That area around Arabba, It. is motorcycle heaven..... Have fun, be safe and bring us a trip report!

I apologized to it...... For riding to work, then leaving it alone all day with cruisers and sport bikes.

(Kind of looks irritated back there, like it doesn't want to play nice with the others)

Yesterday I rode from Amarillo to Roswell, NM. Today I took a 273 mile loop from Roswell to Capitan to Ruidoso to Cloudcroft and back down to Roswell. Temps ranging from 82 to 76 to 104 degrees. Tomorrow I make the trek back home to Amarillo.
