Well, while my ST was left in Seattle (under the watch of my - ulp - 20 year-old), I went to my little piece of homeland in the Ottawa Valley, Canada with the rest of the family. Rode my 1974 Can Am Qualifier 175cc through the bush and taught my 16 year-old how to ride (may regret that one). You sure don't have to finesse it like the big bore ST, do you? You can just throw it around! Those large adventure bikes take a lot more sill, don't they? ::26::

I also pulled out my old DT1 (that I learned to ride on) from the bowels of the shed. ::022:: Haven't tried to run it in years (don't get back there enough). Determined to get her running and restore her. She is kind of the fore bearer of my ST, n'est pas? Stay tuned! It will be a part-sourcing winter.

installed Madstad bracket for my stock screen, better I hope to believe so but got no idea if others would think so since still got strong buffeting which cause a lot of noise, might just ned another screen, meanwhile I will ride naked again and maybe send back the Madstad.

With the Madstad bracket, 20" screen, and OEM wind deflectors it's dead quite and no buffettng on my ride. In the summer I switch back to the stock screen on the Madstadt brackes and do get a small amount of buffeting. If you don't have the OEM deflectors you should think adding them to your bike.

Madstsd brackerts have been on several of my bike and with a bit of adjusting they all have worked well for me.

I've also found that some helment are more prone to buffeting then others. When ?I switched from a Nolan modular to the Shoe Neotech modular things got much quiter.

Regards, Paul

Finished a seven day 1,787 mile to and from Eastern and South Eastern California. Eastern California again reminded me of how beautiful it is.

Today I fitted my new AltRider Crash Bars … so you can probably say I’ve now got “protection”. I had to call in at my local MBike Shop last week to get them to loosen the engine stay bolts because my shorty socket set bar wouldn’t budge them … but other than that everything went together fairly easily … I’ll have to call past them again next week to get those same bolts re-torqued (my torque wrench only goes up to 20 NM and these big mothers need 75 !!!).

Hell these things are WIDE with the crash bars fitted … no wonder they’re called PIGS ::015::

O/k so now I have the full AltRider Kit fitted … Crash Bars, Bash Plate, Right-Hand Brake Cylinder Cover, Left-Hand Universal Joint Cover and Rear Carrier. As you probably know the Rear Carrier has a small cubby storage area and the custom cordura bag from Storm that fits this space has also arrived.

While I had the time I also fitted the optional Yamaha LED Indicator Lights to the front. This is a fairly straight forward plug and play job but does require removing quite a few bits for access (the WASP photo pictorials from Western Australia are amazingly useful). It just a shame that Yamaha don’t provide alternative mounting plates with moulded tabs that directly fit the triangular shaped mounting holes :(

I also have an additional set of lights for the rear but fitting these requires removal of the Yamaha Pannier mounts for access as well as splicing in the new wiring … so this job will have to wait until next weekend ;)

At 16,000 kms my farkle list is quickly coming to an end with just a few BIG items to go … ECU re-flash, additional lights and a Seat Concepts upgrade.

And then just m-a-y-b-e a suspension make over ::001::

Today I got the Fastway F3 pegs and the 2wheels.com levers installed. I had the Fastway pegs on my GS, so putting them on the ST was a no-brainer. When you stand up on them it feels like you're standing on solid ground.

I rolled the dice on the 2wheels levers as I had never seen them before, but after reading the reveiws on this board, I ordered a set. I'm very pleased with them. They are easy to adjust with one finger and offer more of an adjustment range than the oem levers, plus they look cool. The workmanship on the levers is great. Very smooth clean lines. As for the quailty, they seem very well made. I like them.

Actually got to go tear around some of my favorite roads post-flash. Man, it's like getting a brand new bike - dammit what a difference! Always enjoyed my Tenere, now I'm having an absolute blast - can't wait to get this puppy back up to the N. Georgia hills-n-curves in October...

I rode that big, grey, awesome, handsome, mighty sucker to Atlin, B. C. The Ron-ster and I did a nice day trip to Atlin. It was warm (for up here and this time of year), fairly cloudy at times but never did rain on us. It was a very nice trip. 400 km precisely from my driveway to my driveway. Had the world's largest hamburger while there. Went out to check out the local warm springs. For those of you who made the trip during the Rally last year, there has been no progress on the Atlin road. But they left it in good gravel condition, so it was no problem at all.

I knew you'd want to know that. OK, bye. R. ::022:: ::008:: ::026::

Got all ready to ride a 7 hour loop through he Rockies but 1/2 hour in I could hear a clunking sound from the front end, so headed home to investigate. I think it's from the front caliper but the investigation continues ...

Changed out the spark plugs because they were due for it.

Also looked at the TB because I was experiencing what felt like two separate cutoff points during decel from small throttle openings.. With the air box removed, I watched the TB plates as I twisted the throttle. They opened smoothly, but closed with a chattering action. Turned off the ignition and exercised the TB shaft manually, then reappleid power. The plates snapped shut and have worked smoothly in both directions since then?? Hopefully this doesn't return, but I think I'll have some security Torx at the ready to get under the cover that's hiding whatever the motor uses to drive the shaft with (maybe a small drive chain or some gears).

Fitted Anakee 3Hs. Rode home in the pissing rain but they still felt great after riding on squared off, noisy K60s....
