Ouch……and you are paying with Canadian dollars.

Yep, it's like if you were paying 7.65$USD per US gallon as my price is in CAD but I also pay in CAD, or if you came to Canada and paid in USD it would cost you 6.09$USD per gallon. I wouldnt mind if the ST was optimized to run on regular gas hehe

Simple solution: Just buy an electric motorcycle!

o_OWhen did electricity become political? I paid $4.29/gal for Shell premium yesterday.
It's probably our taxes here on gas that make up most of the difference...I usually ride down to Vermont a few times a year, I'll certainly fuel up before coming back hehe

Practiced loading my camping gear into my new Mosko bags and started replacing winter ravaged fastenings with polished stainless ones

Changed my air filter, spark plugs and installed led headlight and marker light bulbs. Got ODX Spark bulbs. They're the same size as halogen bulbs so they don't need extended caps. Air filter was on its last leg so were the spark plugs. They were a nice golden brown and the plug tubes were like new. No rust or water in the hole, And I ride rain or shine.

I picked up my new (used) Tenere from a dealer in NC back in November 2021 with 4900 miles on it. Through the winter, I only put about 1000 miles on it. Before purchasing it, the dealer “serviced” it; changed the oil and conducted a state inspection, etc. The bike seemed to run a little rough, but I never owned a Tenere so I didn’t know what was normal and what was not. I decided to replace the oil and rear end fluid last week for peace of mind and immediately discovered that the dealership had overfilled the oil. I know – I should have checked that closer before now but one would think the dealer would conduct an oil change correctly. Based on other forum reviews, I changed to the Motul 7100 synthetic and wow….it runs like a new bike! I am amazed at the difference that the Motul made in quieting the engine down. It appears to run cooler and the clutch is working so much smoother now. And most importantly, it has the right amount of oil. Highly recommend the Motul.

The pan might have been over full, or it might have been just fine. It is a commonly-ish know problem with the sight glass. It is a very poor method of checking the oil on a T-12. I, and many others, drain our oil. . . . change the filter. . . and put 4qts back in. Don't look at the sight glass, just ride it. As a matter of fact, the window is totally useless until you ride . . . . for some distance. The double tank system on the T-12, which requires two/both drain plugs pulled, makes it very hard to ascertain how much oil is in the pan. Sadly, an inexperienced person could easily overfill her pan.

But, I'm with you . . . . I would have changed the oil too so I knew it was done right. Oh, you also might want to get rid of that old gas too, unless you had stabilizer in it. Enjoy the new ride.

Hunting for fuel this evening, found a petrol station that still had petrol on only 4 pumps out of 16, filled my tank plus a small jerry can on the back seat. That'll get me to work and back in London on Monday and Thursday with a bit to spare. Working from home the rest of the week.20220408_194724.jpg

If you change the filter i believe it takes 3.6 quarts of oil to fill it to the proper level Which brings the oil level half way up the sight glass window.

I'm in Essex near the Suffolk border.

There is no actual fuel shortage, it's the great unwashed protesting at the refineries stopping the tankers getting their deliveries out by chaining or glueing themselves to the vehicles. I've been having trouble where I live for about a week and also where I work is experiencing empty pumps now. It's a 100 mile round trip to work for me which is fine the first trip, but setting off the second time and not being sure I can refill at some point is not a chance I like to take.

I read somewhere that someone was successful in changing the foam density of his ST by drilling holes in the foam (with standard drill bit). It did the job, but I have a bit of an OCD problem when it comes to these things...and since I couldn't find foam cutters 1/4" in diameter, I ordered this steel tube from Amazon:

Then I cut it:

Grinded the inside of the tube:

Grinded the outside on a file (didn't have the bolts to install my grinder on the bench):

Ended up with something looking like this:

Tested it on a foam left over from a previous bike, and it goes in like hot butter:

And you even get the occasional perfect foam curdle:

That's it for today, next step will be designing a drill pattern that will address the pressure points on the Super Tenere seat. I'll report back on the results!
