Shifting has been a bit iffy for a few days. Removed the gear shift pivot bolt and found it was drier than an aborigines flip flop. Gave it a good greasing and things are much happier now. ;)

Try this to remove/replace the tire/wheel. Easy peasy.

My issue is in what would be the second picture, with the wheel/hub assembly sliding away from the pumpkin. My hub separates from the wheel and the rubber cushions start falling out. In this mode, you cannot separate the wheel from the hub as their isn't enough room in the swing arm for clearance. Previous shaft drive bikes have not had this issue, but this one sure does!

Look at all pictures. First you remove the caliper assembly and ABS sensor plate, then reinsert the axle in the normal position. Then gently pry between the hub and final drive and it slides easily to the right. Then remove the axle and you do in fact have plenty of room to remove the wheel and tire with hub still in place. Give it a try.

I understand what is depicted. Issue is, there is no need to 'pry the hub'...it starts to move with the wheel/tire assembly. But before I can remove the axle completely, it has separated and the rubber cushions have wedged between the hub and wheel. In this manner, there is not clearance to drop the tire down.

I get the same issue when re-installing the wheel. Hub is fully seated in the wheel, but when aligning it with the splines, it gradually starts to separate and I run into the whole scenario again.

Hard to explain...I have tried the various techniques depicted. Hub just doesn't want to stay inside the wheel once its free of any pressure holding it in place.

Have you tried zip tying the hub cover (plate that covers the cush rubbers on the hub) to the spokes in place before reinstalling the wheel, there is enough gap to allow this to work, then just cut the zip ties, and slide out.

Ok, I guess I am not explaining it well either. There is no "need" to pry the hub, but if you do, you will see the whole wheel/hub assembly start to move on the axle as one unit. Using this method, when I easily "pry" in the space between the hub and the final drive, it will not and cannot separate because you are moving both the wheel and hub as one piece. You only begin to move them after you have removed the brake assembly and reinserted the axle. Then you slide the whole assembly all the way to the right before removing the axle. The axle comes out and the wheel/hub assembly drops down. I guess I should make a video of this method to better illustrate it.

I'm not prying between the hub and wheel. I am doing it between the hub and the final drive (while pulling the wheel) to break the wheel free from the final drive. But as the wheel/hub assembly come away from the final drive, the hub gets hung up and starts to pull away from the wheel. Once this begins, the rubber cushions become disloged and you cannot press the hub back into the wheel (several others have commented on this happening, as well). Regardless of whether the axle is inserted, or removed, the wheel/hub assembly are now in a manner that you cannot simply pull the wheel.

As I said in my post above: I easily "pry" in the space between the hub and the final drive

Sorry, racer, I am not making myself clear. I'll try to get my wife to hold the video camera while I demonstrate and then post a video. I also am prying between the hub and the final drive and with the axle in place, the whole wheel and hub simply slide on it with no opportunity to separate. If you don't have the axle in place for it to slide and you pull on the wheel, the two pieces will separate. I am not pulling on the wheel, rather the pressure put on the hub with my pry bar (screwdriver) forces the whole assembly to slide to the tight as one unit and they can't come apart. If you pull on the wheel, it will slide off of the hub assembly. No string or zip ties required.

Again, that is the best I can explain it. I have fought that process on 2 Tenere's over 4 years and until my son suggested this method I cussed it every time. Now it is a very simple operation. Have patience and I will make a video.

Changed oil and filter at 7,541 miles. Oil cap O-ring is broken. Have to pick two up up tomorrow (one spare).

This winter will be spent installing all of the protective parts necessary to do the TeT-South run in the spring. Starting off easy... Put altrider fork guards on last night. And installed the new SW-motech micro bag to replace the factory Yamaha bag that was getting in the way of the bars with the risers on. The factory tank bag was waaaay bigger than I needed. The micro is perfect for cell/keys/earplugs/wallet/water bottle. I can easily pop it off and throw it in the pannier when I get to my destination without worrying about theft.

Went for a ride to burn up most of the E-15 gas that was in her. Filled it with Shell premium and added Stabil. The plan was to swing by the Yamaha shop and pick up oil and a filter to change when I got home, keep forgetting the Yammy shop is closed on Mondays. GRRRR. Heading up north for a week to work. Hope there's no snow when I get back and this wasn't my last ride of the year.

I went for a nice, easy, evening ride. Started out with temps in the mid 60's. 60 miles and an hour-and-a-half later, the temps were in the lower 50s. But no wind. Closed the vents on my riding suit, turned the heated grips on to 40% (first time I've used the things since installing last Spring) and loved every minute. Great way to wind down at the end of a workday.

I probably have 500 miles or so left on the front Distanzia, but have a Shinko 705 sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Did the rear tire two weeks ago.

Did the 24K mile oil change...etc.

But, guess it was time to join the "lay her down" in the garage club. I keep the side stand down even when it is on the center stand. But when I put the skid plate back on (Alt Rider, just easier with it off), I put the side stand up. Well, took it off the center stand to put on the side stand, and about the time I figured she was leaning a little more than usual, it was too late. No damage with the crash bars doing there thing as they have done a number of times off road.

That's Ok, I laider down in the driveway. Center stand sunk into soft asphalt and it fell over. I hate my driveway. I'll never leave it out there on a hot day again. Replace the headlight support, and windshield support on my 14. Nice way to waste 150 dollars.

Decided yesterday that I should wash the bike down and give it a good polish......well I've not cleaned it for about a month...ooops.

Also removed the Touratech side stand enlarger as the securing bolts kept falling out which was beginning to irritate me ::010::

Replaced the right side headlight bulb. Replaced the left side last month and bought a spare (at $23 ea.) At least the replacement procedure is easy and requires no tools. I'm glad the Tenere is a 2-bulb system, even though my auxiliary lighting is more than adequate. About 4 years and 48,000 miles on the original bulbs. I don't think I'll stock a spare, but if I need one, I'll buy two.
