I have a 2014 S10ES and I have not done much to it. It has 20K miles on it. I have done regular oil changes and rear diff fluids. I had the spark plugs done and the air filter looked at. I had some issues with the cruise control they ended up putting on some rear brake pads. I have never had any other service done. My service guy tells me it's a Yamaha just ride it. I asked him about the steering head bearing and the pivot bearings he said he has checked those kinds of things on other Yamaha's and it was a waste of time. So for the next few thousand miles I good right? Should be fine? thanks for the help...I'm leaving for a 4K trip to the Smokey Mountains and don't want to worry about the maintenance I should have done but maybe didn't get done. Thanks, Tenere People!

I tend to keep my bikes forever so I do the work to keep them working.
If your just going to trade it off some day who cares, let the next guy pay for your neglect.
Skipping that kind of maintenance probable won't hurt in the short run.
If you do end up keeping it you might regret it when you try removing them linkage bolts some day that you never greased.

I went through the same. My '12 has about 20K mi. on too and I'm leaving Sat for a 2000 mi. trip to remote areas. A month ago I also took my bike to the Yam shop for a once over. They changed the oil and reported back that my rear pads needed replacing and that's it. They probably lubed a few things, but nothing else. I kidded that I would have felt better if they gave me a list of 30 things they'd done, but he laughed and said "I can charge you for it if it makes you feel better". I've been told to revel in the fact that I have a low maintenance bike... be happy and ride one brother!

I will have the steering head bearing and Pivot arms greased and valves checked at the 24K and I will supervise that being done...meaning I want to be there and see it being done. I'm in it for the long haul.

+1 to what the others wrote. Those things don't go bad all of a sudden, so you ought to be fine for 4,000 miles.

Have fun.
