what spring is this?

I found this spring in my driveway last night. I'd just been riding the S10 (2016) so I'm paranoid it's part of the bike. Or it could be from a different bike or off of some other vehicle. But I swear I've seen it before.

Looks like it holds something in tension. There's a black rubbery plastic cover.

Anyone have any idea? Can I just relax and ride Space Goat (the S10)?

Thanks much!

Do you have anything fancy done with your exhaust? Looks kinda like a retaining spring for an exhaust system.

Not a spring I recognise from my S10 (Gen 2)

The outer sleeve is usually only seen on side/kick/centre stand springs, to stop anything getting trapped in the coils. However this one is clearly a much lighter weight spring, like maybe a rear brake pedal return. I'm not convinced about it being from a retro fit pipe, as I can't see how the sleeve would cope in a high temperature environment. Perhaps it's from a buddy's bike?

Thanks for the input folks. I'm going to check the exhaust system, but I doubt it's from that. I'll rest easy that it's not likely a S10 part. The other bikes will get a more thorough going over, as will the other vehicles in the fleet.

I've just checked mine, I've got that spring on my Yoshi RS4 can, from memory the springs weren't that hard to fit.

Mystery is solved! The clue of a brake lever return spring did it. I took a harder look at my WR250R and found that it was missing. Not sure how it would have come loose, but it must have fallen off when I was doing a little off-road in my woods. Convenient that it fell off right on the edge of the driveway where I could find it. I didn't really notice it's absence. Between the brake light switch spring and pressure in the line, it seemed to return just fine, which is also why I didn't notice it at the start. I will probably get a spare just in case this turns out to be a cronic issue.

Many thanks for the pointers!
