Today I had my pleasure of attending my second Gymkhana. For those that don't know Gymkhana is a skill building event to work on slow and accurate motorcycle handling. It really does help all avenues of your riding and I recommend to every rider to participate in this and other skill building activities whenever you can.

But, before the event I was meeting some guys to take the 2+ hour trip up to the event. While I was enjoying my breakfast I looking in the parking lot and noticed the following:

you could almost read there lips. What is it? Looks like a dirt bike, but those tires are more road? After the pictures one of them came in and looked at me and looked at the bike and gave me a smile. I wanted to ask if he had any questions but my group arrived.

I've gotten "looks a BMW" remark more than the "what is it" question.

I just say it's a Yamaha. Then, if they want further 'splaining, I'm happy to go there!

Not heard the dreaded "Nice BMW!" in a while but it was very common when new. Lately, the most responses I get are to the type of bike it is. Cruiser riders and sportbike guys want a more comfy ride or a bike that doesn't weigh 800lbs.

I really like that Yamaha didn't plaster their name all over the machine (Triumph) as that makes people look a little closer. Those in the know see the tuning forks on the tank and then give a solemn nod of approval. I love that nod.
