I just lifted the tank on the Super Tenere. Now I know where the fuel smell is coming from. Last joker to lift it didn’t bother reconnecting the hoses as evidenced by road grime on the nipples.
Anyway- what’s this rubber bumper for that fell out?
Thats a grommet. It looks like the one that fits on the right side cowling.
See item 31 in your parts diagram above.
The grommet goes on the bottom edge of the top cowling, halfway between the 2 clips for the 1/4 turn screws that you use to attach the lower cowling.
The lower cowling has a tab on the top edge, halfway between the two 1/4 turn screws. On the diagram, their is a line from the tab to the grommet showing the tab goes through the grommet. The diagram does not show where the grommet fits in the top cowling. Its easier to see on the bike than the diagram.
Item 28 is for the upper cowling/cover itself but it just so happens it is pointing where the grommet goes in the cowling.
When you remove the lower cowling you have to pull it towards you a bit to pull the tab out of the grommet.
When you reinstall the lower cowling, thats the first thing you do is align the tab in the grommet and push it in, then fasten the four 1/4 turn screws.
