Looks like an 'S'.
Doesn't that mean it goes on a 'Super' Tenere!? ::013::

Mine's got something like that, too. Only on the left side. It also has the rubber pad for the side case.

FYI, it's shown in the installation instructions for the mounts, but not explained.

Was just wondering what this loop in the pannier bracket was for... anyone one know
Looks like the rubber pad isn't there on yours.
Also: is only the rear half of your final drive painted black?

I guessing that is a rubber bumper for luggage to rest on top of, when luggage is mounted.

That's a guess from where it's located, and what it looks like.

ya, the question isn't about the rubber bumper, but the welded on metal loop.
The bumper for sure is used to hold the Yamaha panniers.
The metal loop, however, doesn't come in contact with the pannier when it's mounted and it's only on the left side pannier mount.

Maybe to keep the passenger's foot off of the case? But why just the left foot? Due to the exhaust? It hasn't got in the way, so I didn't worry too much about it. ::001::

Mine doesn't have that, but surely the loop is meant to be an anchor point for a tie-down. Yamaha must have introduced the loop lately.

So is this only for the bikes that have Yamaha panniers and associated hardware? I am wondering if they designed a tie down below the pannier that can still be accessed with the pannier on. If so is it a tie down for ferry crossings or something like that? That would explain why it would only be on the kickstand (left) side?? Probably wrong, but that is my guess. :)

As good a theory as any. But, I would not trust that piece of hardware to secure MY bike.

You are probably right. It does not look very robust. Do any of you have a picture of this item with the pannier on? It may be easier to figure out what it is used for if pannier is mounted maybe?
