I agree Steve. Mentioned to my wife I was thinking of getting rid of the Chrome Whore, aka Stratoliner. She bawled me out. She sat on the S10 once but never rode it.

I prefer to ride the tenere and when you get home do not have to polish chrome! Every couple thousand miles wash the bugs off!

so, been riding since the 60's. Got into woods/dual sporting about 5 years ago. Loved it . Went from a Suzuki TLS sport bike for touring, to a Hayabusa set up for sport touring. But was still missing out on all the gravel/dirt roads. Wanted to experence the ADV Riding. Purchased a 2005 BMW 1200GS in April and was hooked.
The opertunity presented it self for one of the 2013 leftovers at a SMOKING deal and i could pass it up. A month and a half later and 2000 miles. I'm just loving it.
Daily comuter for work , back road assphalt attacks, gravel roads, fire roads andsSlabbing it back home at the end of a long ADV Ride has been great.
Now , granted i do see the normal issues, which IMO are minisqual , chutch basket, mapping, w/shield buffering, but seem all of them can be resolved.

Looking forward to some week LONG trips to some ADVRider events and other trips thru the Appalachia.

I might have to change my tag to Appalachia American!

The only thing I can see in the future ( two years or so ) is adding a Honda AT as my Dirt Bike and the Tenere as my Street bike. ::013::

Now with 1000 miles on the clock, here are my thoughts for a possible future Tenerian....

Extremely comfortable long distance riding position.
Wind protection with stock screen... No buffeting, but it is noisy (6', 34 inseam)
Power....eh....I wish it had a few more ponies for a quicker pass
Engine sounds like a tractor.

My only serious gripe is the STOOPID gear indicator. Yamaha thinks that I don't know when I have the clutch pulled in, so it indicates a dash. I actually can feel my hand pulling the clutch in, and would rather visually see on the indicator if I've actually kicked it down to the desired gear in an intersection.

Overall, I love the looks, set up, drivability, and comfort. Highly recommend this bike.

Super tenere is just okay imo. It does handle somewhat well if you upgrade suspension and has a good balance if its not too loaded. Makes good power with ecu update. At this point its probably the best your money can buy out of the pool of marginal bikes on the market today in big size dual sport with a drive shaft. I owned 2 of them. I don't want to buy the best of marginal bikes anymore. I want to buy what I believe to be the best or none at all and I have high standards.
Curious, what brand do you think would satisfy you're perfection of reliability and performance? as Toyota doesn't make motorcycles! :))

Hello all,
I traded my 2015 FJ-09 in on a 2015 Sup Ten Dec 11th. Being used to the quickness, handling and quick manouverability of the FJ-09 I thought the SupTen would be unweildly due to weight n size. I got it on Dec 11th and just tooled around town, country rides, etc the first week or so. But a shit hook ran a yield sign and turned right in front of me. I had to jam beaks n lean n manouver to miss him and another car to my left, all in a couple of seconds. It was neither unwieldly, slow or ungainly. It was just as manouverable and quick n handled as well as my FJ-09 did. I was pleasantly surprised.

Also, I rode the 90 miles from Millbrook to Birmingham and back a day or so ago (Alabama). Otw up I rode country rodes mostly otw up. But looking like rain I hit the interstate and used the cruise control. God, I am hooked and spoiled!! Never had a bike w cruise control before. How nice it made the teturn trip!!

well i,m on my second tenere because i went for the 2nd gen with cruise . i have to say my hobby is motorcycling and ive always tended to swap my bikes on a regular basis [ as many as 6 times a year ] ...but.. what ive found with the tenere is i never get tired of it , and enjoy it everytime i take it out . the riding position is just perfect for me and it has a level of comfort ive not had on any other bike before . i tend to travel a lot on it and the way it just eats up the miles is amazing , then get home change the oil and filter + a good clean and its ready to go again. yes its heavy but its built like a tank so i can live with that . its only got 110bhp but ive never found it needs any more , put a pillion on, load it up with luggage and it,ll still pull like a train . for me its one of the most underestimated bikes on the road , and yes i intend to keep it . ::022::

I traded a Honda ST1300 and a KLR for my 15 Tenere es in march. 9000 miles later, i am very happy. Haven't had it off road yet because I usually ride with my wife who rides her BMW R1200RT. She wont go off road with it. I did a lot of research before I bought it and it is exactly what I thought it would be except for 1 thing. It is COMFORTABLE!!! I thought that I was just defective because I could only ride the Honda for an hour and a half at a time. Its a sport TOURING bike so it should be comfortable. But with the Tenere, totally stock, I can go a full tank of gas without stopping! I don't know if it's the seat, suspension, riding position or a combination there of, but long distance trips are much more enjoyable now. And my wife and I love the muscle car sound! A few little complaints are;
1) weight, although a low center of gravity overcomes that somewhat. I dropped it once and was able to pick it up myself even with a bad back and full tank of gas.
2) If power is really less than it should be, it should only require regular gas. Sometimes premium is not available where this bike is made to go.
3) gear indicator should display all the time.
4) short oil change intervals
My wife and I occasionally switch bikes. After riding mine a few times she now wants to trade her Beemer for a Tenere! That's great for me because 1) We can do some off road riding, and 2) since I am responsible for maintenance I will go from the frequent maintenance and expensive parts on the BMW to just enjoying the ride with 2 dependable low maintenance bikes.

Traded in my FJR for a smokin deal on a 2015. Bike before was a V-Strom 1000 so I knew what I was getting with the ST. I also have an older KTM 450XC-W for true off road adventures. I really, really like the ST. The Strom was ok once I did all the necessary mods (clutch basket, fuel injection issues) but the ST is head and shoulders above it in almost every feature. The cruise works better than many cars and the brakes and traction control are spot on. I see nothing wrong with the suspension whatsoever, but my wife does not ride with me and I don't load it up super heavy either. Plenty of clickers to play with so I can't see any reason to touch it anytime soon. I am fortunate enough to get to travel to South Africa frequently and have logged over 5,000 miles traveling that wonderful country on a buddies 2012 BMW R1200 GS and have to say as for value for money for the ST blows the BMW away. I'm not knocking the BMW, its a wonderful machine but here in the US we simply do not have (a) the same dealer network they have over there and (b) you can basically get two STs for the price of one comparably equipped GS.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase (well if we could only put the FJR's motor in the ST!).

Now that I've got a few miles on the bike, 7K, I've got to admit, the bike just seems smoother (engine and tranny) and with a little more power. Could be my louder exhaust there though. Very happy with the bike now, compared with initial purchase.

All my other bikes I've had were broke in when I purchased them (used). Just got to keep the rain away so I can ride it more! ::015::

After 9k miles on the oem tires, I mounted some knobbies. Much to my surprise, the S10 is an amazing dirt bike for its size. The weight disappears under you. Nice job, Yamaha.

Pe4496, well said and I agree.

I bought mine in December. It was comfortable and a pleasure to ride then and still is. Aome times it's a pain to downshift fr 6 to 1st gear when stopped at a light when it turns green because I stopped still in 6 gear. Also, i wish the windshield was a tad bigger.

As for off road, not interested. I bought it for touring n riding highways. A hard well maintained dirt riad is as fsr as I go on dirt.

Ace50, I always downshift as I come to a stop but sometimes the light turns red so fast or traffic halts so fast you have to all but slam on ur breaks and don't have time to downshift. I forget that I'm still in 6 gear and then all of a sudden its time to move and you are still in 6 gear. Shit happens.

I remember in my MSC that one thing they teach you is, even in a hard stop situation, you need to down shift as fast as your able so you can get out of the way need be. Practice and memory conditioning, of which I'm sure most don't do very often (me included).
How many practice hard braking every so often?

You need to practice or you are doing something wrong.

After having my S10 for over a month, I thought I would share some things. I just came off of a 2014 FJR1300 ES. I put 18k miles on it in just a year and a half. Great bike, no issues with it at all. Yami quality. Just needed something were i am not bent over so much. I am in my 50's and have enjoyed the super sports bikes for awhile now. Time to leisure back and enjoy the road from another perspective. Adventure Riding. So, I looked at the BMW GS and GSAs. Awesome bikes, rode both of them for hours. Loved them both, just not the price tag and the unreliability issues and lack of support shops.
So, I stayed with the Yami line and got the S10. OK here are my impressions.
Height of the bike. A+ I am 6-2 and 260lbs and it suits me perfectly.
Much lighter in weight than my FJR. A+
Deceptively fast. Because you are sitting up higher you do not seem to be going too fast, but when you look at the speedometer....you are going 80 mph. Same thing vs a small car and a truck.
Windshield: Horrible. Swapped that out with a Madstad bracket and their 20" grey tinted screen. Much better in wind control.
Hand guards. They are ok for the summer but will be replaced by Barkbusters Storm Guards that cover the top portion of the hand to keep the wind and rain off.
Mirrors. Best mirrors I have seen on an ADV bike. The best mirrors are on the Kawi Concourse. I added some SWMotech mirror wideners to get the wider view.
Gear box. The best and softest gear box I have ever felt. No lumpy or loud clunks from going into the next gear. In the beginning I did not think I was shifting.
Seat. Typical seat for Yami's. Very narrow in the seat. Sent mine to Seth Laam to get his custom work done on it. I did the same with my FJR seat. Seth does great work!!
Definitely need a set of Techspecs or another brand of rubber compound for the front knees to dig into the side of the tank. If you do not get any you will slide forward very easily
Just changed the oil and gear shaft oil today. I am sitting at just over 1k miles. I have my luggage to box coming in from Revzilla. Went with the Givi 58 liter aluminum box.
Going to install my Yoshimura slip on this weekend as well.

It is a great bike, it wants to go and I so happy to have it.

Agree! ::014::
Agree ::26::
2012...could be better, bounce around on hyway a bit.
Agree! but down shifting on mine could be a little smoother to make it perfect.
Agree, and they look good too! ::008::

The bike carriers it's weight better than I ever thought it would. It's like a big dirt bike. I've done some river crossings and the TC has saved me a few times on the green texas moss that grows on some concrete crossings. In sand it's terrible but that's to be expected for its weight. I've had to turn off TC and run next to the bike to get going and jump on once its moving in sand. TC 1 will just stall the bike ever single time no matter what you do TC2 isn't much better. The cruise control exceeds my expectations. The price is really my only complaint. I over extended a little by buying this bike, thus it's for sale. I also feel sort of hesitent riding through river crossings and muddy trails also because of how expensive this machine is
