Thanks a bunch mingo, My buddy is going to buy from the USA. This will help thanks again. ::008::

Paul.
same experience for me as Mingo. The only painful thing was getting into the US, computers were down, so 1.5 hour wait in 30 deg C.
on the way back, the fellow from the US dealership faxed the forms over to us customs.
-go and see the guys at us customs, grab forms (10 min tops depending on volume of people)
-go over to the canadian side, pay GST, they will get you a number to put into your riv form. the candadian guys do not look at the bike.
-drive home, online fill out your riv form use the number provided by the customs guy, pay your $195 dollars via credit card
-riv registration sticker arrives in 2-3 days, complete with form
-go to your local crappy tire with riv form, bill of sale..i think the form from the border. Crappy tire guy comes out, makes sure it's a bike and not a tractor, honks the horn, and ask about the miles per hour, you tell him that you allready held the button down for two seconds and it reads in kilo per hour.
he completes the form, faxes it on your behalf, gives you another form for the registries.
-go to registries, with can tire form bill of sale, and insurance, transfer a plate or buy new, and your done.

SEVERAL GRAND in your pocket (minimum) I think it's worth the small hassle. just my $0.02
:)

The import/export process is totally painless.
My dealer waived freight and PDI. No state tax in WA, just a small document fee and temporary permit fee.
I was watching the exchange rate last year prior to paying for the bike and ended up saving almost $500 when I cut the cheque.
One issue is that Yamaha requires a US address for warranty registration and for recall notification. This was not a problem for me.
I'd do it again.

Phoned several local Canadian dealers to try and buy the Yamaha Toureg Man tank pad. List CDN $35.95.(part not available in the US :'() Dealer 1 wants CC payment up front over the phone, says it will take a week to arrive, Dealer 2 quotes $47. I ask if they are an over list price dealer, that's the price they say, I tell them list price on the Yamaha Canada site is $35.95, you must be looking at the US site they say, $47 is the price. I ask them if they think they lose a lot of business to the US, we have a lot of happy customers they say. Ignorance can be bliss.

Dealer 3 quotes $47, pulls up the Yamaha Canada site to see list, says that YC have adjusted a lot of prices to bring them in line with the US, probably haven't updated the computer yet he says then re-quotes at $35.95 and says he will have it in three days.

All these dealers have unsold ST's (from last fall) at $16,499 list plus Freight and PDI $600. Geez I wonder why they are not selling. Well YC does have a $300 instant rebate from the $17100 asking price. Try not to get hurt in the stampede ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: ::025::

I bought my Yamaha tank pad from my canadian dealer for $25. (edit: he did give me a 25% discount, so I bought the heated grips, headlight guard & wind deflectors).

You can buy the S10 from a couple of Ontario dealers for $15000 out the door plus tax.
