New year. New orders. Great ... more training .... cold weather variety. They said 'you're gonna love what we have organised for you'.

You're going home .... not really ... Alaska ::) That'll be quite cold, right? Yeah thought so. I'm not a fan of the cold but they give us some cool toys to get around in and on. We get to spend a few days in The Great Place after ... lock up your daughters ;D

Wow, from one extreme to the other. My training took me from Fort Irwin to Germany, not quite as cold as where your headed but cold enough for this Texan.

Hey, Alaska ain't terrible ... can be mighty fine in the summer. I figure you're headed for Anchorage or Fairbanks. Fairbanks can be nasty in the winter. Anchorage not too bad. If you're driving, you're coming right by me. Lemme know. Is this permanent? Your bike's gonna LOVE it. Keep me posted. R ::008:: ::015::

Congratulations on your orders. I know lots of people who went to Alaska on orders and ended up loving it.

Yea its gonna be cold. I did US Army northern warfare training in 1980 but all we got to get around on skis and snow shoes. I hope i'm never that cold again. Imagine tossing 12 ounces of water in the air and its so cold it cystalizes before it hits the ground. Good training though and i liked the people.

Nothing is permanent with our unit except that we operate from western/central Europe for the most part. This is a training and acclimatisation exercise without a current end date. It generally means that our next op will be somewhere extreme. Not always the case though we just did a few days with the the FFL in very uncomfortable conditions on the west coast of Africa. Why don't the villains ever choose to do their business or hide in more pleasant surroundings.

Can't say how we'll arrive but it'll be interesting ....

I'm happy that I'll spend a few days in Texas.

Game face on and we'll get this done >:D

This'll be good. A bit of Texas time means that I can slip away and pick up a couple of new stetsons, hat bands and decent boots. Yeah I know all stereotypical but you gotta remember that I was actually raised a cowboy and I'm very proud of it. ::) I've been known to take better care of my hats and boots than my bikes and I'm obsessive about those. :)

They are most definitely good eating. Not armed as such, but the males are antlered for part of the year. I think what surprises most people who have not been up close and personal, is their size. They are BIG suckers. Generally harmless unless they have youngsters with them, then proceed with caution. They are skiddish in the wild, but there is a substantial population of them within the Anchorage city limits, and they can be lurking anywhere. You'll be fine. Just carry your Leatherman ... ::025:: ::025:: // uh, Leatherperson, sorry. R
