Couple of years ago I got a job here in the D.C. area. We rented our house to some really great tenants and things were good. Until Thursday. The house is lost to the flooding in Colorado. The tenants got out OK, just barely. They tried to drive away, but the water came up so fast it pinned their car so they waited and were rescued shortly thereafter, the rescuers returned and saved the dog. Kudos to the first responders! ::012::
We will apparently not have coverage and not have disaster relief as it is a rental property. Not sure yet what we're up against because no one is allowed back into the area yet.

Ugh ...

Oh man, very sorry to hear that. That is really tough, and those are incredible images, but don't jump to any conclusions yet - it's still early in the crisis. Thank God your tenants are OK, but the house is a problem for sure. Did you buy or rent in DC? If renting you may still be able to claim your principal residence is the Colorado home and gain some disaster relief or be able to claim the repair/loss. If its a second home and considered investment property I believe you can write off the losses over time as long as you rebuild/re-rent. Hang in there and good luck.

Hey, thanks for that .. actually we did neither; we pulled our RV out here and are staying in a campground. Maybe that'll fare well for us. Yes, it's still early; man I hate the 'there's nothing we can do right now' part big time.

Really sorry to hear about your house. As you wrote, the not knowing is the worst part!
I'll be happy to buy you a beer at L'Enfant if you want.

Having dealt with a FEMA disaster claim, its how much you lived at the address over x amount of the past few years so you should be Ok. Some hints, start your claim the moment they declare a disaster, respect all filing deadlines, and appeal as many times as needed if they turn you down for something.

Good Luck!

Roger that ... got a claim number already. The insurance adjuster will be meeting with the tenant and I'm driving out with a generator and a pump on Tuesday.

Beer at L'Enfant! owww, my arm!! ::003::

CapsLock, I hope it all works out in a favorable outcome for you. If you need any local DC help let me know. I still really appreciate your help when we synced the throttle bodies on my S10.

Thanks! All set on this end. Irony of it is that I couldn't make it to the big Colorado Rally when I really, REALLY wanted to go and now I am heading there, without my bike. Oh the humanity. Here's the view of my neighborhood. Longmont 9th Heading East - Aerial Footage 9/13/13 They zoom in on our street at about 0:45 and our house is just off camera to the right. What a mess.

I'm on the road tomorrow and will be there Thursday night. Should be a fun-filled weekend. At least they are not sold out of muck boots at the feed store :)

I feel your pain, and hope for the best. I had 18' of water in my house after Katrina in New Orleans, its devastating.

Ugh... that's horrible. Thanks for the perspective. We'got nowhere near that much damage.

Sadly, the folks with the least water damage seemed to have had the worst mold problems after Katrina. Rip that drywall out as soon as you can to stop it in its tracks.

Good luck and God bless

You got enough... At least you won't have to fight over a partial claim. :-\

Been two weeks of 16 hour days. Just to top it off I am furloughed due the shutdown. Progress is good but man this is a lot of work. Here's my arrival two weeks ago.
