I started talking to you guys about a month ago about getting a Super T. My favorite bike after 30+ years of riding was a 2004 R1150 GSA, started riding Harleys in 1979 and thought that I would always have one in my garage...anyway, after 3 back surgeries I thought that I could ride a Ultra Classic. Nope took off last weekend and after a 430 mile day I was laid up for the rest of the week. Of course several doctors have told me I should give up riding...yeah thats going to happen. Anywhooooo, long story short, I pick my Super T up in a couple of hours. The riding position helps to lessen the load on my lower back so I am hoping that I can get back to riding again like I used to. I was able to ride long distances day after day on the beemers, but gave them up due to the final drive problems (good friend lost his on a trip). I never had one go out but it did start weeping and scared me right out of the market. Really hoping that the Tenere is as comfortable as the 1150 GSA was but without the worry. Sorry rambling on. Will be at the dealership at 0900 hrs. I hope that I can handle this bike....you know, it is the faster model (being black and all). ::012:: I just have to figure out how to do pics now. And figure out how much money I can spend on farkels. Lets see, thinking about the altrider c-bars and skid plate, Jesse bags, and either a V-Stream or MRA windscreen. Then I need to read up on seats either a Corbin or Sargent.

Hope to see you guys out on the road.

Have a grand day,

Rexford

Rexford,
I too, am following in your footsteps, other than the medical problems. I had a 04 BMW GSA and have recently sold it and am considering a S10. On a recent 5500 mile trip with my GSA, the rear wheel developed some play, although I made it home with a failed primary coil, the thought of being stranded and the excessive BMW parts/service costs took some of the fun out of the trip. I was 300 miles from a BMW dealer, and inquired about the play in the final drive, and as the discussion continued, they said, 'final drive failures are rare'. I had just left a campground and had another 'former' BMW owner check my drive, and he mentioned that he had a failure far from home, that cost him $1000. I know life is full of coincidences, but these failures seem more often than not. Good luck to you.

I'm having a hard time following: everyone knows Blue is the faster color. >:D

The seating position of cruisers in one reason I don't care for them. Actually, the entire riding position is wrong from my point of view. With your feet out front, and the seat sloping away to the rear, plus the sometimes too tall/too wide bars, I can't imagine not having back problems if you ride any distance at all.

I find the Tenere easy on me as far as riding position goes, although I'm far from large. Being 5'8" 160 LBS makes this a very roomy and quite tall and large motorcycle for me. When the seat starts taking its toll, I just lift myself off the seat for a few, and after I sit back down, I'm good for another hour or two.

Have you ever considered a kidney belt? I still have one from the seventies, and sometime when my back is bothering me, I put it on. Now that I've brought it up, I'm wondering if they make them anymore.

Enjoy your new bike. Most of us here certainly enjoy ours.

But blue being the fast color: you really should have known.... 8)

They still make them...I wear a kidney belt all of the time as the extra support seems to help especially if there are any unusual movement while riding in the dirt. Also it's part of the routine and it feels strange without it. You can get them where they sell dirt riding gear, keep the one from the 70's though as likely better quality.

Redford, congrats! Always good to hear people jumping from other stuff to the Tenere. For me it has been the most fun and comfy bike out there.

Mine's a Gold Belt. It was as good as it got when it was made, which is why it is still good today. I still have my Hi-Point/Alpine Star Enduro boots as well: Still good, and they're so well broken in I can't bear to replace them with stiff plastic ones. I use them all the time for off road riding. I don't mind them being old, so am I.

Add one more to list of converts.
Sold my new GSA last week, picked up my new Tenere yesterday and sold my RT today.
I'll keep the old 95 GS with a new FD and 176k mi just for sentimental reasons and some off-roading.
I don't think I'm going to be disappointed.

Congrats Rexford in getting your Super Tenere. I too had cruisers and a 1200GS. Sold my Road King so I could get the ST and do not have any regrets whatsoever. Its more comfortable than any cruiser i've had and handles the curves like no cruiser can. In the end, its a great all around bike that has a reliable reputation, good dealership network, and does not require cleaning!

OK, I won't remember the brand name, but I did look at and try on a riding jacket (it was not Rocket or Tourmaster) that had a kidney belt built into it. I remember it was a high-end jacket (out of my budget). I have and use a run-of-the mill back brace from Walgreen for the long hauls. Works great and since I tend to lose them at gas stops they are easily replaceable.

This reads almost exactly ,like my story.
43 years riding motorcycles first Harley in 1978 with a total of somewhere around 38 bikes in my life so far.
Still have a 08 Ultra and the best bike I ever had was a 04 BMW 1150 Adventure.
Bed back that has had my down for 3 years now with relentless pain that I fight everyday.
Good luck with the new bike I am loving mine.

Klim Badlands Pro

It's built in, helps keep the weight of the jacket off of your shoulders and for me, makes me sit up a bit straighter as well.
