Went to start the S10 this afternoon , massive timing chain noises. Then crank no start several error codes. Traveling full time I can't be locked down to one spot for months waiting on repairs. Soonest the Yamaha dealer can get me in is THREE MONTHS from now. "Can't" be without a bike that long.

Cycle trader searching for a quick replacement, only reasonable option was this 2017 GSA is 13,000 miles on it. Got it for a good deal. Local shop I bought it from will pick up the S10 from the Yamaha dealer when its ready and put it on consignment for me. Thankfully I had the title with me and not 1500 miles away in my storage unit. They had literally just sold a 2016 S10 yesterday.... shucks I would much rather have bought that.

WOW the power (only ridden 8 miles so far lol) WOW the wind protection is total crap at 100+mph. WOW so many buttons I have no idea what they do! I hate not having a digital speedo. Handling is very nice, nothing dramatically different than the s10 but its better at parking lot stuff.

Welcome to the world of European bikes. In my experience they are very different from Japanese bikes. Be aware they can be addictive.

Congrats on the new bike.

Hmmmm . . . . sounds like malice of forethought to me. :D
No, the real reason is I went to the geographical center of the US in South Dakota. That caused it all!!! (not kidding actually went there Tuesday)

Last time I was in Vegas at the storage unit I have been halfway thinking of trading in the truck so decided to grab the title and carry it, figured mite as well grab the bike one too.

Congratulations on your new bike. The bizarre thing about this post would be that now, you will have to worry about "two timing chain tensioners":):):)
Yeah I would have been happy with another S10. Nothing in the area other than a couple of GS's a Pan American and a FJ09. Couple of wee stroms/versys but..... i think the lack of power wouldn't do it for me anymore

I guess he meant, referring to the Versys, he didn't choose that because they don't have too many hp...
Congratulations on your new ride!

Congratulations on being able to locate a decent deal nearby ! Kinda surprised your not satisfied with the windshield it looks pretty decent in the picture, maybe You will be able to adjust it to work better. The closest BMW dealer for me is nearly 200 miles so pretty unlikely I would buy one.

Congrats on finding something you think will be a great bike. We've had people go to the other brand and reverse - both ways - plus you're part of the gang by now.
Cheers

The RT I rode had a useless OE windshield. Looked fine, but raising and lowering it made zero difference to airflow. IIRC we switched to an Aero Flow. Great coverage, but decreased the top speed quite a bit when in the raised position.

Yeah this factory window is next to useless. Up to 60 its not great but acceptable. Anything north of 100 MPH its absolute trash, horrible, ridden naked bikes that handled air better. 110mph on the S10 with the tall factory windscreen I could open my modular helmet and take a drink. Above 65 this forcibly slams my visor shut cant even do the city notch, never mind trying to open the modular.

It needs to be 4-5 inches taller. I'm not tall either 5'-10"~

Thursday the new tall pugi shows up, hope that solves the issue.

If you're thinking of going over 100 mph in the GS for a long time, rather than worrying about the windshield, you should be worrying about the differential. The differential modification campaign is in force for your new acquisition

yes...I know...I'm the baddest in the forum:):)
