Weight of Yamaha boxes and mounting brackets

Does anyone know the weight of each Yamaha side case box and bracket?

i can't help you with that. This little variance is small peanuts compared to my extra cargo I carry on my skeleton!!! I could use to lose a few!!!

Good point!!! We all seem to worry about an extra pound or two when we talk about our accessories or the weight of the bike and yet (many) carry 10-20 pounds of extra weight on or off the bike!!

Before I gave up the motorcycle drag racing, I used to see it all the time. There is only so much stuff you can remove from a bike to lighten it up, then you have to start spending money for expensive light weight metals to replace existing parts. We used to figure that it cost about $100 per 1 lb of weight loss and guys would spend a bunch rather than go on a diet and lose some weight.

I have got mine off and replaced them with metal mule ones, however they are 400 miles away at present so I cannot weigh them.

I can tell you that they are quite light compared to my current ones.

It depends upon your intended use if they will be any good for you. They are light, but not very durable. They would be OK for commuting and light duty work but there are only 2 fixing points for them. A long plastic one along the top (effectively 2 corners) and one that goes to the foot peg. This means that they are very weak when pressure is applied to the rear lower corner. Like in a crash. It happened to me with my previous XT660Z Tenere (not exactly the same but the same system and manufacturer - Shad). On top of that on the "Ride for Life" last year, 2 boxes snapped their upper mounts completely off. The locks are also weak. Many have had no problem with them if they are oiled up but the catch is still only a plastic hook holding the lid down. Easily breakable by a scrote with a screwdriver.

While I didn't realize it, this is the exact info I was looking for. I have Givi E360s and E21s and am going to go with the SW Motech quick release racks. I just wish they would have made them symmetrical. Maybe I'll get an E460 for one side? Although, that's pretty damn big. Or, maybe I'll just sell both sets and buy the Trekkers. Decisions, decisions.

Not sure, but I believe the Givi racks are symmetrical. You are correct in that the SW-Motech are not.

I have the SW Motech racks on my V-Strom 650 and absolutely love that I can take them off in a minute. I will go with the minor inconvenience of being asymmetrical. :)

The new line of Givi racks (for the SuperT) are quick release as well.
