Earlier in the week I noticed some fluid weeping from the reservoir for the clutch on my S10. No big deal, so I thghtened the screws on the cap and cleaned it off. 2 days later I'm getting some more weeping. Has anyone else seen this problem? I'm guessing I need to take the cap off and install a new diaphram? Any help or advice would be most helpful. Thanks.

I don't think I've ever seen one of those gaskets seep. Pull it apart and look for any irregularities. Swap ends with the gasket. Make sure it's installed upside right. The hollow side faces up. And make sure it's not over filled. It takes a surprisingly small amount of fluid.

i wonder if over tightening can mushroom the gasket!!! Make sure there is no fluid on the top side of the diaphram.

+1 - Maybe the cap is slightly deformed and not sealing equally around it's circumference.

Don't know why it started leaking. I got the bike last Aug. and have just over 2000 miles on it. Should the bike be on the centerstand or side stand when I unscrew the fluid reservoir cap? It seems to me that the centerstand would be best as the bike is leaned over on the sidestand and could easliy spill fluid out when the cap is removed.

Sounds like it should be covered under warranty. I would take it in and make them fix it.

If you do this yourself, you may want to wrap an old towel around the reservoir just in case you do spill some. Also a good idea to have a hose or a bucket of water near by in case you do spill some on the bike.

Mine does the same thing. Got my bike last August and it now has 4k miles. The leak is really tiny though. So far, I've just wiped it off and not really worried about it. However, I'm watching it and if it continues or gets worse I'll pull the cap and make sure all the mating surfaces are clean and undamaged.

Definitely. That type stuff is often times covered even when out of warrantee.

When checking for deformed gasket,...
I'm betting it's not.

Just wipe dry the outer edges real good then reinstall.
It just Prolly wet and weeping even though you tightened it.
When it was loose that gasket edges, were wet.

Dry it good, tighten it good, should be fine.

Update... Pulled the cap on my reservoir this weekend and look what I found. The gasket was all buggered and the oil level was getting low. I've never opened it up before, so not sure how it happened. Could the dealer have messed it up when they were assembling the bike? Dunno, seems like a hard thing to mess up. Anyway, going to order a new gasket and I expect that will fix the leak.

That cover is not normally removed during setup/assembly. It was either like that from the factory or for some reason, the setup person decided to remove it to add fluid or do something not normally called for. All that I have seen have the proper amount of fluid in from the factory.

That is seriously mangled. Good find. Your dealership prolly should get you one gratis, warranty and all that.

Mine is weeping too with 3000 miles on it. I went to do the mini fuse in the clutch wire mod and noticed the fluid on the reservoir. It was ready to drip on the paint!
Ive ordered the gasket and will wait for it before opening up the reservoir. cheapcycleparts.com shows 2 different gaskets and part numbers for $3.77 each. Both parts are under $20 shipped and that beats waiting for my dealer to look at it and order under warranty. I'm not interested in going to the dealer after the $170 rape for 600 mile service. Could it be possible the dealer damaged the gasket during the 600 mile service?

I had the weeping fluid issue on my clutch master cylinder. It was wet all around the seal and ready to drip on the paint. Well I received the parts the other day and took off the top of the cylinder and noticed the text was facing the front of the bike instead of the back like the brake cap.
After i removed the cap, the gasket was absolutely perfect and the fluid level was good. I cleaned it all up and put the cap back on with the text facing the rider and screwed it down. Went for a 100 mile ride and so far, no leakage. All I can think is that the dealer put the cap on backwards at the 600 mile service. It appears to be symmetrical but putting the cap on backwards could make it leak. Something easy to check.

Reviving this for a quick question:

How full do you fill the reservoir? Halfway? To the little line inside (see pic in this thread)?

I noticed that my clutch engagement point was changing with bike temp, so I bled the clutch. Filled the reservoir as much as I could really, which was probably too much.

Five miles into my commute I noticed fluid really pouring out from the back side (some had actually dripped/sprayed onto the bike), so I pulled over and cleaned it off, opened up the reservoir and noticed the gasket a bit off so fixed that. Probably the correct amount of fluid now too, lol!

Were you able to figure this out? Having the same issue with a new gasket.
