The 38 second mark in the video shows exactly what happens when you don't turn off TCS on a Tenere in a water crossing.

I've got fairly limited water crossing experience, but TC in mode 2 works well. I've done a few in mode 1 when i forgot to switch, and got across ok, just was a bit dicey because it made it hard to keep up momentum with the power constantly cutting out. My experience is in water about a foot deep (over the footpegs) and maybe 10m wide crossings. Round river rocks about fist sized. Standing up and letting the bike move under me worked best, especially when the front was getting deflected around a lot.

Never accidentally turned the bike off when hitting a rock or something?
I definitely would have killed the bike multiple times if I had my finger near the button.

Worst one for me was on the Tenere, following Spklbuk...or I should have been following him. His route looked a bit rough. I decided (stupidly) to go slightly left of his route. When the bow wave washed between the speedo and gas tank I just kept saying to myself, 'keep running, just keep running.' Thankfully it did. 5 minutes later I followed his exact route back out when the next crossing was submarine territory.

No, there's a fair amount of precision required. Grips/bars are healed but not tight, thumb is there just not pressing on the button.
Chris Birch taught me that at one of his clinics a few years ago. The bike has to move under you, you're just the monkey on the back for the ride but remain in control.
