I guess this is something for the UK members. My warranty is up on the 29th of April, I've spoken to the dealer about condensation in the clocks but the dealer is charging for labour to assess the claim and send pics to Yamaha for consideration, is this normal practise?

The condensation is really hard to photograph as it quickly clears, it's stained the glass but it's hard to photograph it. I've also found missing paint on the engine and frame, If I've got to pay for half an hour's labour I'm going to try and get new headers too!

I would personally contact Yamaha UK (last time I called it was in Crawley?) Speak to their CS or technical dept and advise them about your issue and that you have spoken to your dealer and they want to charge labour. Tell them if it was out of warranty you would understand but as it's within warranty why the charge?
On that topic, I was working for a German auto manufacturer when in the UK and let me tell you that if HO in Germany ever found out a dealer was doing this, they would lose their dealership and any backend bonus. That is just poor service and it is about time UK bike dealers get their sh1t together and realise that they will lose good customers to Euro dealers.

Thanks fornthe heads up Dogdaze, I'll get hold of Yamaha now, if I'm honest I can't say I'm surprised the dealer is trying to charge, it's one of those dealers that bends over backwards when you are doing a deal but as soon as the deal is done they don't want to know.

I've a mate with a GS that is breaking in a new engine after they swapped his motor out when the paint came off, loan bike for him while the work was done too, I know for a fact my dealer isn't going to be as accommodating!

Mine 2017 does exactly the same as pic. 1 (loosing paint, and many others around the world )
It will be covered by the dealer where I bought it (Denmark). No labour..

But no rust on exhaust on mine, and also no missing paint on engine (as far as I have seen)

If I'm honest I'm not precious about my bike, I buy them to ride and not polish but my 2006 V-Strom had no rust on it and that was ridden through many winters (coated in ACF-50).

Well I'm just back from the dealer, no mention of having to pay for the check which was good, they took some pretty poor pics so I've emailed the ones I took, will see where it goes. They've already said the best they'll do is paint the affected parts rather than replace which I'm happy with providing they do a half decent job of it. The paint is easy, it's the clocks that are the biggest concern, fingers crossed Yamaha see sense and replace them.

Gotta say, speaking only for myself, trying to get warranty coverage for a fleck of paint missing seems like a lot more work and frustration that just doing a little wire brush, prime and spray spot treatment on my own. Fogged gauges is another story though, not so obvious a self fix there.

Mine's in next week for replacement glass cover on the clocks.. Dealer is going to do it..

I'm lucky as i have a good relationship with my dealer.. I took the pics of the condensation, emailed them to the service manager and had a reply from Yamaha within a few days..

Yamaha were originally going to replace the entire clocks but as that would cock the milage .. We decided that they would change the clear part and re seal it first.. If that doesn't work then they'll replace the entire unit.

To be honest it's only the clocks I'm interested in, the rest of it as you as isn't a difficult job, it's more about the warranty is almost up so let's make the most of it. My dealer has had condensation issues in the past that they self repaired by wiping off the stains and resealing but it doesn't work for long before it comes back, I'd read elsewhere that Yamaha send out clocks with programmed mileage to match the bike but I don't know how true that is.
