I've just bought a 2016 Super Tenere and would like to get a tank bag. I'm specifically looking at a Giant Loop Moto Fandango tank bag:

They specifically say to protect the tank so the bag doesn't scuff up the paint:

Has anyone clear vinyl wrapped the entire tank? It's a weird shape and I can't find any 3M vinyl that is big enough to wrap the tank in one piece so I'd probably look into doing it in sections using knifeless tape. I'm a wrapping noob so any pointers would be helpful! Thanks!

I don't recall any clear vinyl, but there's a few on here with what I refer to as a wet suit for the tank. Completely covers/protects the entire tank. I don't that Husky wrap will fit a Tenere though. :D
I'm assuming the "wet suit" thing would cover up the tank? I don't want to cover the yellow! :p

The prior owner of my 2014 ST put a vinyl wrap over the tank. I have no details on what he used, but it is holding up great.

Look for Grafiguard. It is a good transparent protection film and you can order the size you need.
I wraped my tank in one pice with grey vinyl…….not a walk in the park but possible. :)

I've never wrapped the entire tank, but for years I used a multi-piece clear vinyl kit to cover the tank that was made specifically for the Super Tenere. It contained a piece that goes around the fuel filler cap, a piece that covers the lower top of the tank (the part that always gets scratched up by your jacket zipper), and two side pieces that protect the tank from getting scratched up by your legs. I used a tank bag for years with this kit and the tank looked like brand new.

The kit was made by a company called The Tankslapper. Here are their current offerings for the Super Tenere:

I was always very happy with their product. The precut pieces are really easy to apply, and they stand up under daily use; I'd get several years out of each kit before I changed them. I stopped bothering with the covering when I started getting into higher mileage and wasn't as concerned with the tank staying in pristine condition.

I ordered the XPEL gloss total protection kit. I'm not sure if I will use every bit of it but it's nice to have the options.

I do have the nice yellow paint on the 60th Anniversary and want to keep it looking good for a long time since it looks so eye catching.

Have you considered using a Tankring that prevents the tankbag from touching the tank ? My 2013 came with a GIVI tankbag and tankring at first I thought the previous owner wasted a bunch of money but after using it for a while I highly prefer it. No straps to mess with.

I did consider a tank ring mounted bag, but the only issue was where to put it while fueling. Magnetic ones can be placed elsewhere on the tank and the zipper one like I posted can be flipped up.

I usually set tankbag on passenger seat area while fueling.
Many years ago I had a magnetic mount tankbag that worked excellent but that wasn’t used on an adventure bike ridden on lots of dirt roads.

+1 for tank ring mount. I rest mine on bars / steering head when fueling which works well if I have electronics in there plugged in to the bike.
That said I've never used magnetic.
Bagster was mentioned above; they've been around forever. I think it's a quality product but either you like that form factor or you don't. My brother had one and loved it but it's not for me.

I used TankSlapper's pre-cut PPF on my 2013 Super Tenere and have just ordered their Tank Top Kit ($16.95) and their Tank Protector Kit ($15.95) for my 2024. The price goes up to $40.70 and $41.45, respectively, if you order the kit with a higher-end film (EXPEL Ultimate or Scotchgurad Pro). Pretty sure I just used their TankSlapper film last time and it worked well. I use a magnetic tank bag without fear of scratching my tank.
