Since you mentioned ROK straps I will have to say I’ve been using them since 2007 and they definitely work excellent and a little safer than most other strap systems.
They are amazing. And remember, they come with an amazing guarantee. I watched ROK at the rally replace 9-year-old straps where the outer casing had frayed, but they still worked perfectly. The guy who had the straps walked up to the booth to show how amazing the straps were after 9 years, and they just handed him some new ones and said they didn't want natty looking straps out there!

A one-minute video of the ADV1 on HWY 242 between Sisters and McKenzie Bridge, Oregon, USA. My wife and I shot these using our cellphones and it was edited using iMovie (free on Macs). Nothing fancy...we're spending money on engineers and machinists, not videographers and professional editors!

How much for heavens sake???
Hello SpudBob,

The ADV1 will be around $6500. We don't have our completed bill of materials yet, and we are in conversations with some of our main suppliers, so we don't have an exact number yet, but we will soon. It will be on the website as soon as we have a fixed number.

Thank you!

Yah I didn't pay too much more than that for my bike. Ill wait for the chinese knock off! JK!!!
OUCH!

We definitely know we aren't going to be a fit for everyone. And we do expect there will be copies of our design. We've done the hard work of 2.5 years of R&D and spent a lot of money, but figured out how to make a single wheel ADV trailer that actually works. We have patents pending for some of the key pieces, but everyone knows that doesn't really protect all that much.

And just to be transparent...I personally did pay less than $6500 for my 2012 S10. People way under value these bikes because they have 30k on them (just breaking in!). Also I bought it before the pandemic, when prices started to spike.

You design is very nice and looks well thought out but the SherpaX is 1/5 the price. I realize that R&D is not free but......

Yep, the SherpaX is a good trailer! All designs and products have advantages and disadvantages—this is true of both the SherpX and the ADV1. SherpX has the huge advantage of having product! We're still working on finalizing our design, we're going to solicit some beta testers and give them time to test...we won't be in production for at least 4 or 5 months. No matter what you're pulling behind you, I hope you get out there on your Super10 and have a great time!

In a BMW R1200GS forum, I was asked about the 2nd trapezoid hinge that can be seen in the video above, about a center stand, and lastly the ability to easily roll the ADV1 into hotels and garages. I thought it might answer some questions here as well. Here is my reply:

---------------------------------

We have added a 2nd trapezoid hinge about halfway up the front of the trailer. It's connected to the hinge arms forming the triangle you mention. This design eliminates unwanted vertical side-to-side movement of the trailer. The beta trailers we're building now look something like this:

Please note that this picture is of our prototype, so it's a bit of a Frankenstein. In the photo above, the patent pending trapezoid hinges go into the trailer, where on the beta and production they will protrude out toward the bike by 3 inches. We are doing that so we don't take up any more space inside the internal storage. I want to be able to fit a laptop in that internal storage compartment. Another thing to ignore is, in the photo, we're holding our wiring on with duct tape...of course that won't be the case.

The biggest change there will be is the hitch arms are made of very heavy steel in the above photo, but they will be in aluminum in the beta and production models. There are a million other small changes that will happen: the bolts will probably be black instead of silver (we're looking for a vendor with reasonable prices), there will be a Schrader valve in the box where the wire is going through that will allow you to add/remove air from the air shock easily, the wire will be mounted better, there will be two additional internal storage boxes between the hinges, etc.

To address your other points, the ADV1 will come with a center-stand so it will be easier to detach and attach to the bike. It will also have a locking mechanism for the trapezoid hinges. That effectively turns the whole trailer into wheelbarrow. You hold onto the hitch arms and move the trailer backwards just like a wheelbarrow. However, from experience, if the gear isn't well balanced side to side, it can be tough to do easily. And the higher up the weight is, the harder it is to roll it around. So, I'd recommend removing anything you have on the top of the trailer before trying to roll it around.

Lastly, to your point of taking the ADV1 in and out of hotels and houses, the ADV1 has a quick release attachment system, so it'll be easy to attach and detach.

Hopefully this answers your questions. Let me know if it triggers any others.

Hey @Mad_Matt,

Yep, that was me. I had the ADV1 connected up to my blue Super10. You can see my writeup of the rally on page two of this thread with a bunch of photos as well.

It looks like we'll be in Redmond again this coming June, but this time we will let people do some trail rides, pulling the trailer. We will be in production by June, and we'll have either production models with us or beta models. Last year we still didn't have our final design...but we were very close!

Will you be going again this summer? Maybe we can get you drooling again!

I had a really nice question asked on one of our YouTube videos. I thought I'd share it with you:

======= Question ========

I love the concept and your product overall. I plan to ride the TAT and just wonder how pulling a trailer affects the inevitable wipe out.

1) does it change the way the bike drops/stops?
2) How does it change the recovery of getting both back up on their wheels.
3) what is the risk to the mount point in a spill?

======= Answer ========

Thanks for your interest and the questions!

From my conversations with TAT riders and watching some videos (I've not done it myself), I know the TAT can get extremely challenging at points. The ADV1 can handle a lot: highway speeds, rough off-roading, double track, and even non-technical single track. But there will be parts of the TAT where the ADV1 will be really tough to pull. Just like when pulling a trailer with a truck, there are times the trailer makes things more complicated! So, just a heads up—the ADV1 doesn't fly or levitate. You do have to find a way to pull it through the tough stuff, and I suspect it will be very challenging and at times you'll be wondering why you brought it! That's one reason I love BDRs...there are planned ways around the extreme stuff for old guys like me.

1a) Drops - from experience (more than I care to detail...) the act of dropping the bike doesn't change much. I very recently went down on a city street in Chicago after hitting an unmarked huge patch of hydraulic fluid that was very recently dumped by something—probably a garbage truck. Luckily it was at a slow speed approaching a stop sign. My bike, the ADV1, and I slid for about 10 feet across the pavement like it was ice. I did not notice the ADV1 at all while I was going down. The bike and the fall acted no differently than if the ADV1 wasn't attached. I had been out testing and the ADV1 was loaded with about 80 lbs of sand and camping gear. If I was alone, I would have had to unload the ADV1 as much as possible, disconnect the ADV1, and lift the bike and the ADV1 separately. But three guys ran—then slipped and slid—to my aid and we had it upright in 15 seconds. The only damage was the gear shifter was bent. A crescent wrench had it bent back in a minute or two.

One thing to remember, the ADV1 weighs only about 100 lbs by itself (26lbs of that is the wheel and tire). When you drop it, it doesn't put 500+ lbs of weight on your gear the way a bike does. I had my laptop in a non-protective bag in a soft pannier (GiantLoop Round the Worlds) on the underside of the trailer and it was not damaged. The ADV1 on its side on top of gear is very different than a bike on its side on top of gear. All that said, there is less need for hard panniers for protection. (There are, of course, other advantages to hard panniers.)

1b) Stops - When you stop, the ADV1 acts very similar to having a passenger or a lot of gear on your bike. You feel the weight, but it's lower and less of an impact than a pillion. You have to be a bit surer that your feet are placed where you won't slip (loose gravel or gravel on pavement is of course possible problems), or you will really feel the weight! The ADV1 doesn't wiggle or wobble in any way, so really the only thing you feel is the weight.

2) Recovery - If you're with other people, righting the bike and ADV1 is easy. Take the gear off the ADV1, and then one person lifts on the ADV1 and the other on the bike. Lifting the ADV1 of course helps lift the bike as well due to how they connect. If you're on your own, you'll have to remove the gear, then disconnect the ADV1, and then lift them separately. There is no sugarcoating it—we've made our connection points as easy as possible, but getting the lower side disconnected might be challenging depending on the circumstances, but you should be able to do it.

3) Damage - We call the part that goes through your axle and the ADV1 grabs onto the "axle adapter." In the drops and slides we've had while testing, the ends of the axle adapter have gotten scuffed up, but not bent or made unusable in any way. In my slide through the hydraulic fluid the very end of the axle adapter was scratched up a bit, but that was it. Of course, at some point someone will do damage (it's inevitable) but we haven't seen it yet.

Your timing is good. We have just opened applications for beta testers, but it closes in about 10 days. If you're interested in being a beta tester, check out our beta tester application. You can also reach us via the Contact form at pasqadventure.com or call 773.598.7460. We pick up when we can.

We've extended the deadline!

The response to our call for beta testers has been overwhelming! We’ve gotten more than double the number of applications we expected. And they have come from all over the world!

Thank you to everyone who has already applied!

Three bits of information have made us decide to extend the deadline:
  1. It’s the holidays and people are busy. Everyone’s inboxes are packed with special offers and our data tells us that a lower percentage of people opened our last email than normal, so we thought we’d give everyone another chance with this email. If you are interested in being a beta tester,

    Apply Here

  2. Some are running late. Several people have written to ask if they could apply after the deadline…so we figured we could just extend it a bit.

  3. Exciting possibility for beta testers!! One of our partners who makes panniers has reached out to us suggesting that they would like to give each of our beta testers a set of panniers! We haven’t locked in the details, so it’s not a done deal. However, there’s a very good chance our beta testers will—in addition to the ADV1—also receive a new set of high-end panniers. You can see our list of partners on our home page. You’ll have to guess which one it is. We thought this might encourage a few more people to apply, so…hence the extended deadline.

We had a great question recently that I realized we have never addressed: how to secure/lock up your ADV1 so it remains your ADV1.

attachFull5562727

To answer that, I needed to explain our latest/greatest hitch clamp first (one pic of it above); the hitch clamp provides 3 of the 5 ways you can lock the ADV1.

Check out the blog post here.
