This is my first ST. It's a 2019 with 17k miles.
It has a lot more bells and whistles than my KLR!!!
Needs rear tire and a skid plate. Any recommendations?
I like 705 on my KLR, but can't get more than 4k miles out if it. I will do probably 80/20 (asphalt/dirt).
Also, I will need a good service manual. I appriciate any recommendations that would help a new ST owner.

Thank you from MN

Both tires and skid plate depend on your riding plans. Given 80% pavement, it depends on how hard the 20% off road will be. I think most folks here will recommend frame mounted plates rather than those contacting the engine/sump.

The RideOnAdv shown here would be heavy, more expensive, and overkill.

Dunlap Trail Max Missions seem to be popular now. Longer life but OK for easier off road.

Thank you for your reply.
I never seen skid plate that big!!! You are correct, that seems overkill for a heavy bike.
Dunlop tire you mention is 250$. Do you have any idea what kind of miles I would get out if it?
My riding so far has been "bike camping" in BC, Baja and hoping to make it to Aaska this coming summer. So. I travel solo, heavy and with all my gears.

I just bought one to install but a recent review has been posted you can look at. Indications are the TMM's would get you to Alaska and home with no issues. Estimates around 10k mi, depending on your riding style.

I highly recommend Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires for the Super Tenere, rode a set to Alaska and back last summer and here are a couple pictures of them after 10,000 miles.
i happen to have TRex crashbars and skid plate and have been very happy with them.
Where about in Minnesota are you located ?

I’ve used Shinko 705 tires on numerous bikes and just replaced a worn out rear on my S10 with 4100 miles. It will probably be the last 705 mounted on my S10 as I would rather pay twice as much for a tire that lasts twice as long with only one tire change. My preferred tire has always been the 90/10 Bridgestone Battle Wings for the street and very little gravel roads ridden.

I am in Roseville, near Twin Cities. Can I mount Trex skid plate with other Brad crashbars? The bike already has unknown brand crashbars.
I think I am going with TMM as well. Thankd

I get around 4k with my KLR when I use 705. But I agree with you. It's better to pay twice as much and change tire half the time.
Howmany miles do you get from your front tire?

I still have a decent used Shinko 705 front that was removed from my 2021 S10 with 6000 miles on it. I would guess that it still has 4000 miles of tread left. I’ve replaced Bridgestone Battle Wing front tires between 11,000 to 13,000 depending on an an upcoming trip. I like the Battle Wings because they require little weight to balance, don’t cup as they age, and are a very neutral tire that is also good in the rain.

Yes. But you might want to do the complete T-Rex system; plate and bars. The bars you have now are GIVIs. The choices are getting slim due to the Tenere being discontinued overseas.

The previous owner told me I have to move the baron the right side in order to pull the battery. Is that the case with Trex bas also?

No need to do anything with TRex bars to remove the battery, its a very close fit but the battery does come out or reinstall fairly easy, actually the hardest part is installing the bolts that hold the battery cables in place and be very careful not to reverse the cables like I have read about happening quite a few times on this forum.

You can get the panel and battery out with the Givi. Pretty easily actually.
I just got this ST. Previous owner told me I have to move the crash bars to get the battery out. I hope you are correct and I can get it out without too much hassle.
