Checking my valves today at 50k. 7 are on the tight side but in spec. One exhaust valve is at .20 when minimum is .22. Of course it was the very last valve I checked and by that point I thought I was going to get away with just swapping out the updated cam chain tensioner.

Anybody want to tell me it's close enough? I really don't want to pull the cams out but will if I need to. ::010::

If I do pull the cams should I reset them all to the middle of the spec or leave well enough alone?

Tough question for me. One part of my brain would be very pleased that at 50K, all the valves are still in a good running condition, AND probably settled.

The other part of my brain would be saying "well, Im keeping her for a long long time, so if I just go ALL OUT this one time and get them ALL set to the "loose" side of the spec, Im likely done for the life of the engine.

Yep, tough question.

If your willing to do this over again in 10,000 miles your good to go but they will probably be tight in 10,000 miles.

No, I'm going to do it....... Just added arrow headers and the autotune so I want to make sure everything is squared away. Getting new plugs, air filter, tb sync etc.

Doing the valves is the only time I miss my GS.

Set all valves closest to mid point.
Dont forget to put timing marks on the inside of the cam sprockets, so you can actually see where they line up with the cover ::010::

If it were mine is set it toward the maximum spec. The valve clearances tighten with mileage.

Just curious. Did you adjust the valves the first go around. Just wondering if the slightly under spec valve was ever touch before?

Yes, they were done at 26k all exhaust and I believe 2 intake valves were adjusted to midpoint. The bike actually has 49k and while just one is out of spec, they are all very close.

A very wise old mechanic once said, "A tappy valve is a happy valve." I'd set them all to the loose end of the spec. and go another 50K.
