I had the first valve check on my FZ1 at 26,600 this past summer, no shims needed.

I did check te clearance of the valves at almost 12000Km (8000ml) and they are in spec.
It was not recomended bij the maintenancemanual but i wanted to be sure.
I had a FZ750 who needed first checking at 42000Km (26000ml) , but with 5000 miles to go it started very poor, the clearance was too thight, and on some valves no clearance.
So now i check it every winter.

i probably won't wait either, at least to get a check and be able to mark where they are to set a base line. From there we can see how much they have changed.
