Anyone got a fix for this?

When I lock & remove key from top factory storage box, the box doesn't really close tight. You can push it up and down in the back about 1/8 inch on each side. If I push down on one corner, the other side remains 1/4 inch open, (on its upper lid springs). Bloke & I have been discussing & it seems all upper cases have a tiny gap when closed. But, my side bags close nice & tight with no gap.

The dealer swapped it out for a new one & re-keyed it for my key. The new box has the same problem identical to the original gap. So I put that one on, went home, sprayed it with water simulating a sideways rain, and it remained bone dry inside.

I know the plastic latch system could have been designed better.

Got it fixed thanks to eOns - scroll down to 19 Jul 12.

Yep, mine does the same. Never let water in yet either and I've been through some torrential downpours. Just another of the idiosyncrasies of the Yamaha luggage system I guess....

So they all do it then, as does mine.

More worrying is that with this gap you could force it with a bladed screwdriver.,.

I use a small cable tie to tie it around the locking pin thereby "enlarging" it.
The locking hock will latch to the "enlarged" pin making the lid tighter when you lock it.
Did it for 3 of the OEM boxes. So far so good.

Just put a set on mine this week, He just got back form Alaska, and decided to upgrade. Free is good ::016::, so I jumped all over that gift! I noticed the top box "gap" also, but my buddy told me EVERYTHING stayed dry during the trip, so I am not too worried.

Yes, but you could also smash the top in with a hammer, as a burglar would be willing to break the window of a car to get inside. This box is good for paperwork and other semi-valuable but replaceable items. It merely keeps honest people honest. If someone wants in, they are getting in any of the case systems. ::021::

It's even possible that gap is "designed in" to allow some play in the lid and still seal without requiring too much of the latch. A tightly fitting lid would require the latch develop more clamping pressure and we all know how sturdy the latches are.

To my mind, this is one of those "don't fix what isn't broke" issues. It latches and it seals. That's good enough for me.

+1. Nothing wrong it from a functional perspective. It just looks odd.

Mines been on the piss since I had it. Never leaked. Adds character. Looks sh*t but I'll leave as is. :)
Always intended to have a look at the seal to see if it could be altered slightly.

Glad that it works for you ;)
BTW you can experiment with different thickness of cable tie to get the "best" fit.

Yes enOn, there's a fine line. A thick one the corect width won't allow closing, and some have fastening squares that are too large to tuck back into the lid.

If you use my solution, a quarter will work too :)

What I do think is cool is that I put 500 miles on a new 13,500 dollar motorcyle and all I can find wrong with it is the back storage box lid doesn't look like it closed properly! ::008::
