Had a bad experience today..

Of all "destinations" .. Went on a new road in my development where they are starting to put in new home lots.. Was loose wet mud.

I thought the bike was stuck.. But after trying to rock the bike a bit back and forth to gain traction I noticed the abs light on (traction control light not lit up). I first thought the breaks were locked. The bike would run.. Not didn't seem to move.

I turned the bike off a few times and hopes it would reset.. No luck.
I left the bike off for about 5 minutes.. The abs light turned off and seems to be back to normal.

Not a great feeling when your leaving for a 2 week trip in June :(

I'm no expert, but the same hardware (sensors) is used for TC and ABS.

And TC1 will halt you instantly if the bike is in mud or ice or any surface that would require the rear wheel to turn before the front wheel does.
Even loose sand can stop you in TC1.

I realize you describe ABS lights as being the indicator of problems when you couldn't get going. But I suspect switching to TC2 or TC-off would have gotten you going.

This sounds familiar, have you tried a search of ABS Sensor? Give the bike a once over and make sure your sensors are attached and nothing is fowling them or the wires up. Also keep magnets(including magnetic screwdrivers) away from the sensors.

You need to find yourself a little sand pit or something similar and play with the different settings and combinations. As noted, TC1 will stop you in your... tracks.

Turn it off or play with it like other say. I tried conquering sand last year in TC1, forgot to turn it off, and I ended up in a tree :D

If you were managing to spin the rear wheel you would have turned the ABS off anyway.

One of those things the more experienced do is run TCS off and then spin the rear on the move. ABS "faults" and stays off.

When i was on the "tragics" ride Mr MX King did it instead of stopping and doing the centre stand thing.

Why stop when can roost 10 people behind you? :D

TCS 1 will pretty much prevent the rear wheel speed getting much above a few percent higher than the front. It does change at lower speeds though.

Jason, as soon as you turn key off, it goes back to TC1. Each time you turn key back on, you need to push little black button on the left side of instrument panel. Hold it in until the TC says OFF. If you have it in TC1 in mud and sand, you will go nowhere. These conditions require at least TC2 or OFF! As for sensors being logged, well they are inside the hub both front and rear so having mud build up, um not really. If you got mud on a wire and it broke, that is a different story. Enjoy and ride the hell out of it.

If you touched the front brake lever while the rear tire moved, the abs will come on. If doing this for more than about 20 seconds, the abs will turn off and the yellow light stays on.


Reset needs the wheels BOTH to roll at the same speed for about .1 mile after cycling the ignition key.
