Ok, I have a 2012. I have tried everything to get the ABS to cycle and I finally gave up and took it for a ride and did the redneck method in a grass field. And I didn't dump it. So, I followed the shop manual, jumper across the blue with black stripe to the black ground, kill sw off, key on, hit starter, nothing, won't crank. Then I tried another method, kill on, sidestand down, in gear, key on, hit starter, again no crank. Tried with it in neutral, again, no crank. It appears my bike will not even crank over with the stand down or kill off. I get the blinking ABS light so that tells me I have the jumper right.

Anyone else have this problem or am I going nuts, or should I say more nuts?

I make sure to do the "Redneck" thing about once a month just to keep the system working. Of course, I am a Redneck.

That is the exact thread I followed. My bike will not crank over with the kill sw off. I checked the batt voltage, it was 12.6. The manual says it has to be above 12.8V? The bike cranks and starts fine with the kill sw on. Maybe for some reason it has to be above 12.8 for the test to work? I guess I could put a charger on it. Should probably just buy a new batt since it's 6 yrs old.

Yeah, I'm a redneck at heart, just stuck in this damn state for now.

I think you are not completely understanding the instructions.

When you hold down the starter button for 4 seconds the engine is not supposed to turn over. You hold down the button for 4 seconds and then grab the front and step on the rear brake at the same time.

You will hear/feel the abs cycle back on and off.

At no time will the bike start or crank over, it is not supposed to.

Give it another try.

You're not actually trying to crank the engine over, just using the start button to "start" the test procedure.

Ditto on the Start button being held for at least 4 secs.

If it still doesn't do it, it is probably a GS disguised as a S10. ???
