I have a Sargent Seat that isn't latching when I install it on my bike. It used to work but was always finicky but now I can't seem to 'jiggle' it into place. I want to find out where the alignment is off from the latch and the lock.

I'm thinking there must be something I can smear on the latch and then try and install the seat so I can see where the lock is sliding along the latch. Any suggestion on what I can use that will show the lock path but not cling to the lock making it difficult to see what's happening? Or any other suggestions?

I had the same problem I just loosened the latch enough so it would self align then remove the seat and re tighten.

I had the same problem on my replacement seat. as you know the seat is held in place in the front by the latch and the back by sliding the tongue into the hold down. If you feel inside the area where the tongue goes there is a step in there that would not let the tongue in my seat slide in far enough to let the seat latch. I cured this by shortening the tongue and grinding/filing a 45 deg on the back of the tongue to help let the tongue get below this step. Worked for me
