Trouble with ADV Monster dimmer switch and Rigid SR6 light

I've been emailing with John, at ADV Monster all morning, about an issue I was having with their dimmer switch http://stores.advmonster.com/rotary-led-dimmer-with-high-beam-bypass/ and my SR6 Rigid light. I told him that I troubleshoot the circuit and once the dimmer was isolated away from the rest of the circuit the light worked fine. With the dimmer connected, the light was very dim no matter where the dial on the dimmer was set. Now mind you, the switch had been working just fine since I installed it back in May.

John suggested the light had developed and internal ground and was interfering with the dimmer's operation.

With the dimmer removed completely from the circuit, I disconnected the plug that has the positive and negative wires, and ran a jumper from one positive to the other. When the power was turned on, the light didn't come on thus eliminating the notion of the internal ground.

So the light works fine as long as the dimmer isn't plugged in.

I offered to ship John the switch so he could look at it and do whatever tests he needed to do. John's reply was that the switch wasn't under warranty since I wasn't using HIS lights. I asked where that was stated on his website?

I obviously got a bad $60 switch and I'm getting no where with John. Has anyone else had a problem with this switch?

I have the Rigid light wired into the factory aux light plug under the right side panel using the factory connector. I also mounted the dimmer there as well.

Wow, that sucks! What poor customer service, so what that you use it with another light? If it is warranted only by using his lights then it should only be sold in a conjuction with the lights, not as a separate item. Really goes to show when the shit hits the fan, some people run!

let us know how this works out.
According to google website cache, On October 7th, his store policy page stated the following all the way at the bottom:

LED Controls Warranty

Due to variations in electrical components from various manufacturers of LED lights, our LED controls are only warrantied when used with ADVmonster products.

http://stores.advmonster.com/store-policies/

That's 20 days south of today. I know this sucks and he should have this warning on the dimmer product page, but sometimes it pays to read disclaimers.

I have had a lot of good luck with him. He even sent me some replacement LEDs for a light I had gotten from him that was well out of warranty.

My guess is this isn't the first time people have had a problem using the switch with lights other than his.....thus the policy.

Good Luck

Someone pointed out that the disclaimers were in the store policies and not in the item description. I guess you have to read everyone's fine print even if you don't know it exists. Silly me ::)

Well John is going to do nothing to help me out on his switch. He won't even let me ship it to him for testing

I guess he's one of those vendors that loves the customer when they are spending money, but isn't much for service after the sale. I guess I'll chalk it up to a learning experience and not do business with him any longer!

Random,
Sorry you're having trouble. Just so ADVMonster isn't painted with a broad brush, my lights/dimmer switch work well together. But they are the same brand.
Painful that the rheostat wouldn't work with your RIGID setup. That EE stuff is mystifying to me!

On the Skene Designs website they have a large warning that their dimmers will not work with Rigid industries Dualys manufactured after July 2013. It doesn't mention any of the other rigid products but it may be something to do with the lights and not the dimmers.

oddly enough, the warning was read and understood both by me and another guy here in town that did the buy with me. Both our Rigid lights were prior to 2013, and worked initailly.
As it stands I was able to have three setting still (20,80,100%) plus high beam trigger. But no matter how hard I try I cannot reprogram it.
