I'm planning to do a big trip on summer 2014 (my present to my 55 years anniversary (I know…very old :'( ).
This TAT could be a nice option!! I’m going to read about it.
Do you know if july-august is going to be too hot in there?
Jamie, I ran the eastern TAT on a KLR 3 years ago. I made it as far as Moab. Had a blast! Contrary to what some may say the beauty of the TAT is you will get too see real America and real Americans. The roads are a good mix of everything. You will experience tarmac, silt and everything in between. The people you will meet in rural America are the real deal and perhaps the best part of the trip. The S10 will easily handle anything on the eastern part of the trail. I averaged 300 miles a day and camped wherever I found trees to hang my hammock.

I want to finish the trail sometime in the near finish, hell I want to do the whole trail some time in the future. Your timing of your plans in 2014 would work out well with me. If you want to do the TAT and need a riding companion let me know, I'd love to accompany you on the TAT. I can't say enough good things about this ride and on a big bore it would be a real adventure! ::008:: ::008:: ::008::

Jamie,

I don't think anyone has talked about heat in July/August.

Yes! The heat will be there, and from the Eastern half on, factor in a heap of humidity all the way through Arkansas.

This year was a smokin' hot scorcher in Arkansas from June thru August, with very little rain.

I think we went for over a month straight with temps bouncing at 100F and higher.

Might make you feel at home?

Thank you very much guys there are so many options!!! I must work in it.

Brntrt: is a great offer it could be great ride with you. We'll see how thinks go... I'm just starting with the idea.

Wfopete: i live in Spain but near the Pyrenees so is not very hot. I prefer a cool whether but I’m travelling once a year to Morocco so I’m used to ride in hot. Even so, the Trans Canadian trail looks a very good option in summer.

Nice site. Is there a Lower 48 version of this?
Not that I know of. Between the TAT, Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail, backcountry discovery routes (Utah, Orgeon, Washington, and more being developed) and Continental Divide Trail, there are a fair number of opportunities. Probably a bunch more I am forgetting at the moment.
