I purchased an FJR hitch from them and it worked out well, especially so using a lighter cargo trailer. Didn't know that trailer was back there.
I have no problems with the quailty of the product. I've had 3 towbars from him (K100, R1100R and TDM900), they all worked well, except for towing the camper trailer on the TDM900. The problem there wasn't the towbar itself but where it was mounted on the bike, the alloy footpeg plates flexed a bit with the heavier trailer which let the towbar move a bit.

Still he's too far away for me to let him use my bike as a sample.

Re: Towing a trailer with the Super Tenere?

I never ran with a trailer or even gave it much thought, but it seems it might be a good solution. Why not ferry your gear somewhere that you can go play on your Tenere. Drop your gear and trailer anywhere on your route and go have fun. You wouldn't have to unpack your bike to do a short loop somewhere cool along the way. There certainly would be no lack of available power to pull a load.

You guys who've done this: Doesn't running with a trailer actually avoid the high center of gravity issue involved with piling gear sky high on your bike? Wouldn't the on road manners be essentially the same (perhaps better) than if you were riding a bike without gear? Is stability better or as good?

It seems that with the additional weight and drag aft, you would put the center of momentum forward and it would be more stable, much like an arrow. Electric brakes? It would be like a parachute pulling you to a straight stop. Again, more stable.

I don't believe that towing a trailer compromises this bike, but rather enhances it and adds versatility on road trips.

The more I think about this the better it sounds. ::015::

Of course we'd have to start yet another fuel mileage thread. ::025::

LOL, you've just convinced yourself. The answer is yes to all your questions, with one addendum, going too hot into a corner will give you the heebejeebies. The same amount of gear stacked on the bike would do similar things though. There is a design out there that mounts the single wheel trailer way up at the rear rack, that one kind of defeats the purpose of getting things down low. The arrow analogy describes things perfect. And I think I posted my thoughts on the rear axle hitch mounts. Adds a whole lot of mass to the rear swing arm, not good.

Makes sense to me. On your addendum, having trailer brakes would help solve this, wouldn't it? Anybody doing that? A single wheel trailer seems that it might add some issues, but I'm open to most anything. I'll have to keep my eye on this thread and do a little research. Thanks!

I am using the trailer for the reasons you describe. Going to take a 6 month ride and with the trailer can carry a few creature comforts that would be hard to stack on the rear of the bike. . Set up base camps and ride 2 or 3 hundred mile radius around area before packing up and moving on.
Brakes on trailer work very well. Just like trailers pulled by trucks there is a point weight wise where they become necessary. The campers I have pulled behind the Goldwing needed them IMO. I know I was glad to have them. I have a self imposed max trailer weight of 300 lbs behind the Tenere without brakes though I am still looking into adding brakes anyway.

Re: Towing a trailer with the Super Tenere?

Sorry to drag this out of the basement, my ST is my commuter from FL to NC and would like the capability to bring a couple of bicycles to and from via trailer. Z06 can manufacture a ST trailer hitch?....just pm'd him.

Re: Towing a trailer with the Super Tenere?

There was a gent from Holland I think, he had a nice hitch design. We were talking about him doing most of the welding, all the mounting points, then shipping in a tube. 3-4 pounds of steel over seas became problematic. I actually haven't seen him in a while, hope all is well.
BVail and I met on the last road trip that I didn't tow 15 some-odd years ago in Cheyenne. I've got most of the parts for a single wheel design in the garage. Don't think it will be ready before Ouray.
Ha, ErnsTT was the make of the hitch. I'll have to drop him a note...

I'm having some crazy delusions. Does anyone know where to get/how much it costs to put a hitch on the Tenere?

I'm wondering if I can haul my WR250R behind my Tenere. This would let me explore new territories with the best of both worlds at my disposal.

Re: Trailer Hitch for Tenere?

I have made a few of them. Should be able to pull WR. Would build you a hitch but I am leaving for a six month long motorcycle ride Saturday.

Just picked up a nice trailer a couple of weeks, and have scoured the nets looking for a solution too. Can't see where anyone commercially makes one.

Put me down for one too. I sold my Wing and kept the Aluma trailer, just in case.

Re: Trailer Hitch for Tenere?

I've thought about a trailer a number of times and if there is enough demand, I could have some made. I'm thinking to use a regular 1.25" receiver, so it could be used for either style hitch. Definitely hung from the rear sub-frame and not as unsprung weight on the swingarm.
