I put in a WPS Firepower Lithium battery. Works great. I've never charged it since it went in.

I have a 2008 (black) FJR with 70,000 miles. One year ago bought a 2012 ST. As much as I love the FJR I do find it 'cramped' for my 6'0 frame, and my left knee gets painful after only 30 min on the FJR. The ST is more comfortable, esp with good highway pegs attached to the engine protection bars. Just did a Bun Burner 1500 on the ST, Richmond, VA to Denver, CO, and the ST was terrific. So I take the FJR out for a spin every few weeks, knowing that it will always be available for any ride. With the terrible resale value I'll keep the FJR forever.

So far I have no regrets. I havent put but 250 miles on the tenere. I do 75% of my riding on my 690 enduro.
