Has anyone purchased the Touratech skid plate?

http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/3321/PN-046-5135/Aluminum-Skid-Plate-Yamaha-Super-Tenere-XT1200Z

After reading reviews and looking over the options I decided to go with the Touratech becuase of the added protection that the 2mm stainless steel plate rivented to the bottom of plate would offer as stated in the plates description on their web site. But to my surprise upon receiving it to today there is no stainless steel.

I called Touratech in Seattle to see what was up and the only answer that they had for me was that the website was just badly translated from German, or they changed the design. Dose anyone here have any info on this?

I just picked up my raven S10 on Saturday, and have been enjoying catching up on the forum. Thanks for all the great posts.

Doesn't sound like a bad translation to me... they have gone out of their way to emphasize "stainless" - how could that be added in translation?

"The base plate of the engine guard is made of 3 mm thick aluminum sheet, reinforced by 2 mm stainless steel sheet. The stainless rivets create a visually appealing, sturdy and highly resistant connection of the aluminum and stainless plates."

If it doesn't have the stainless steel, and the aluminum is as thin as it looks in the pictures, I'd be sending it back. They should pay return shipping!

If you want the best protection, take a look at Jaxon's plate. I like my H&B - a bit heavier and pricier but excellent protection.

To me, it looks like the rear brackets are also a weak point. I think for the price the Altrider plate is much better. You also have TABASCOS model to choose from, as well as H&B.

The pic is on the TT site. But you really would need to access the PDF install to see the brackets.

You left home without a puter? ::005:: ::025::

Touratech did say that they would email me a shipping label and take care of it if I want to send it back. It looks to be a well designed plate, but I will be looking into the other options as well. I also received the Altrider crash bars today and they look fantastic, moving their skid plate up on the list of possibles along with the others mentioned here.

I am still interested in know if anyone has a Touratech skid plate with a stainless steel plate attached.

Thanks for all the info.
