It's a lot of cash for a seat... the sales pitch looks good.... there's a cut out so no pressure on the coccyx.....

I've tried the rubber mod on the standard seat... and it's not made any difference for me..I'm getting a sore backside after less than 100 miles. I've had a corbin seat on a Gs in the past... that didn't work for me either....

I'm only 175lb so not much padding ....

Has anyone used one, or can suggest what may work for me ( I don't fancy annoying customs so it's got to be available in the UK) ::017::

Hey Bryn, if you don't want to import then your only real choice is custom made seating, there are few in the UK. There's Tony Archer, SaddleCraft and a few others.

Opinions about seats are like butt-holes. Everybody has one and all but your own stink.

;)

Meaning that you really do need to try before you buy, or have a custom one made. I've had two bikes with Sergeant seats and a lot of people love them. To me, the shape is wrong and they feel like sitting on an old steel tractor seat.

I'm in the same position as you Bryn. I had a Corbin on my XJR which I personally found fantastic, I could ride all day. Trouble is the UK arm of Corbin charge almost twice the price of what they pay in the US. I too have looked at the other available options. You can buy a Sergant seat direct in the UK for £275.00 and our American friends seem to rate them. I also looked at the Touratech, it looks good but it's a lot of money!

You're right, the Touratech is £370 :-[

I've got to find something more competitive than that..... I need something with a channel down the middle to keep the pressure off my coccyx.....

I know it's not the greatest thing to look at, but I've gotten all day comfort using an AirHawk seat pad on my Laam saddle. Honestly, I think it would work just as well on a stock saddle, and I only use it for those long days on the road.

It would certainly be the cheaper option 8)

I have a ton of Touratech extras on my S-10 (Russell seat though) and they're all excellent quality stuff. However, I bought a Touratech comfort seat for my R1200GS and didn't like it. Sold that puppy as fast as I could get home. YRMV.

Good info

The one thing i didn't like about the Airhawk was the cheap looking thin straps that loked like bea straps holding it to the seat....I've seen somewhere they are now using a more substantial fixing .....it would be a third of the price of a Touratech comfort seat ::)

Don't know about the Laan saddle, but does it have the same basic shape as the stock saddle? Wondering if the Airhawk Dual Sport is a good fit?

thanks

I have a small Airhawk, for occasional use, ever since I tried to create a ZX10R sports tourer a few years back. SWMBO complained, as the pillion seat was still too small to ever retain the Airhawk securely, so we had to get more sensible.

The stock bra straps are poor, as you say, but can be modified easily to suit the bike. As the name suggests, I think these things were made for pilots primarily - they do create a slightly remote feeling on the bike, so it is important not to over-inflate. Super comfortable though & I have seen 'iron butt' type riders add a sheep skin fleece cover too.

Seat replacement is too hit & miss for my taste, so I tend to stick with OE & suffer in silence most times. If I remember correctly, Roger aka Tyke has some form on this one with his S10, but I can't recall what after market seat he tried. Maybe he can interject, or you could PM him for more info.

If we ever get another date set for a meet at CMC Clay X, you are more than welcome to try my Airhawk though.

Cheers ............... KEN

Yeah a comfie seat would go down well. I have arthritic complait and FMS with which I am in pain most days anyway but would like something a little more comfortable than my favourite seat at home.

Just seen this thread, hence the delayed reply. ...well I am old ya know ::025::

I fitted Sargent seats which are different shape and maybe a wee bit lower, mainly the seats were quite comfy and well made, they had the Blue trim (very kitch), however the material of the actual seat was slippy and i felt as if I was moving around on the seat, which really didn,t suit me at all....I sold them.

So I'm back with the OEM seats and TBH I've got used to them, I suppose its a case of training arse and seat to get used to each other ::008::

It may be worth trying a pair of Moto Skiveez....they get good reviews for £50.. And if they're not perfect Tony Archer can re model the seat..was thinking of a channel being cut out the middle..and some memory foam pads perhaps :-\

I just got the toratech comfort seat (see review - seperate thread !)

Sales pitch was good and i had the cash (still think its a lot for a seat) so i got one.

I like it so far - seems flatter and more level than standard with a firmer foam. Less pressure on the inseam area (which i had a problem with on a 4 day 2000 trip a few weeks ago) It feels good and i have had no issues so far.
