So I ordered the Touratech brake pedal extender. The shipping seemed exorbitant at $16.36, and the part was pretty darn spendy as well. When you shop with the BMW riders, you pay a high premium. But I really wanted that part so I ponied up the big bucks. Still, $16 for shipping, for something small enough to fit in my pocket? Madness.

Anyways, my package arrived. The box was larger than expected, and weighed about ten pounds. I nearly dropped it when the UPS guy handed it to me. What the heck? Did they send the wrong part?

Opened the box and discovered why so heavy. They sent me a catalog that could double as a doorstop; it's about 3" thick and printed on heavy paper. And a glossy magazine about people traveling with their stuff. Apparently the high shipping rate, is to cover the cost of sending out a huge amount of literature with a tiny part. I hope I don't strain my back, taking my recycle bin out tomorrow night. I'll try to avoid buying from them again, for the sake of the trees AND my wallet.

The part is very nice, fits perfectly, nicely machined. They do neat work, I'll give them that. But the catalog, sheesh!

You are so funny.

Yep, shopping with the affluent. You pay. In several ways. But sometimes they have what we want! And they are quite a success story. (And now, you play a part in that. PUN intended)

The catalog is a shock the first time you see it. Mine stays on the nightstand until I get thur it, takes a couple of months.

Check your packing slip that came with your order. I recall a line item on my most recent one that said you weren't paying a premium for the catalog.

I don't recall now what or who the purchase was, it was tiny what ever it was, but recently I left a note in the comment section on check-out to "please just pop 'it' in an envelope, their $11 shipping was a bit much". Low and behold it came in an envelope and I later found a refund in my card billing. Doesn't hurt to ask...
