So last night I go ripping down a dirt road with lots of pot holes in it. I heard a big snap, then a crash . My top case mount snapped in two. The box hit the ground , broke open , spilling the contents all over the dirt. The hinges on the box broke as well. I'm wondering if I can epoxy them back as their is not much stress on it. Has this happened to anyone else:? Seems like a pretty crummy design if it just breaks with some bumps. Does anyone know where I can A) get the bracket that holds the top box on the bike? or B) know anyone who has a top box for sale with the bracket? I also had the two little screws that hold the lock mechanism come out and my lock fell out. Many thanks to carrot top(again!) for helping me to get that put back together. Thanks to to my other buddy who lent me the original plate that goes on to it until I can get it sorted out. Sorry forgot your handle but you know who you are! Madhatter?

I can't find the part number for the plastic bracket that holds the top box down. Any help would be appreciated!

Rigged some fishing pole holders on the bike for a trip to the Texas cost and brought back a few fish to eat. Beautiful riding weather here in Central Texas. Got to give my new Madstad windshield bracket a test run along with a new excell throttle control. I like them both!

I was about to ask 'what make is the top box?', but then I saw that the two small screws of the lock became loose. So I presume it's an OEM top case. Can't help you with your question as I have a Givi top case.

I don't have oem luggage so don't know how the top case mounts to the bike. I see no brackets in the Top Case "kits" or in the part diagrams for luggage

Does it fit directly to the oem rear rack? If so, that would be #37 - Carrier, 1 UR FOR SMX 23P-24841-10-00

You can get aluminum ones from AltRider and Touratech that are stronger. Not cheap, but neither is the oem part. AltRider Rear Rack

Quick search found the carrier for $113 at Boats.net http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-23P-24841-10-00.html

Actually EricV, it's part 41 on the boats.net microfiche that holds the rear OEM top box, or the rear OEM rack: http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-23P-24884-00-00.html
A little cheaper, but still painful for a piece of plastic. As I said, I don't have the oem luggage, so didn't know what the top box mounted to. Thanks for clarifying AVGeek. I hope our info helps the OP. Some riders pulled that part off on day one and tossed it in the closet. Maybe someone is willing to part with it? I'm not, just because I like to put the bikes back to stock when I sell them, even if it's 10 years later.

Here is one on ebay for $50 with free shipping. From Israel, but free shipping to the US, only excludes the Middle East.

Be careful, there is another on ebay for $48, also from Israel, but has $42 in shipping charges.

If there's a better combo value available I don't know what it is. I've got this setup, and it's about 12k miles in with no issues at all. Also, this is the third one of these Bestem boxes I've had, and they're great. Completely waterproof, reliable, and lots of room. And while you're there, you can spend the money you saved on this:
