OK, since others have come clean I can muster the courage too...Hi, my name is Tim and I dropped my bike in the driveway taking it off the center stand after adjusting my HID light. I have the Alt Rider bars (silver) and they now have a scratch about an inch long. I have OE bags and the side bag has a scuff on the black plastic on the bottom of the bag. Now I know why they made the bottom plastic and not metal. Nothing hurt but my pride. Good visual for my 17 year old stepson. Stepdad makes mistakes and motorcycles are dangerous, sometimes in your own driveway. Glad to have that over with. I am registered at Cycle Gear if you are shopping for a gift for my celebration :).

:-X If I speak about a topic possibly similar to one not unlike this one, fate might visit me next and I haven't gotten my crashbars yet. That or I could go play on that greasy, one-lane gravel road that I like.

Thanks for sharing!

I didn't drop mine, I rock-dented the right side header pipe behind the "bash plate". So now that the pristine is wore off, I can go back to normal riding. ::26::

It's hard to be cool when you drop your bike right in the driveway like that.

Bike fell over as I walked round front to take a picture of the camp site! Had to turn round on motorway and come home. 680 miles in one hit at the age of 9. What a star ::012::

::010::

This is the damage to the panniers and lower bracket, check out how close the box is to the back wheel and that was standing still ::007::

Okay, Okay :'( I did it ::010:: On my Whitehorse to Baja trip and I drop it in the parking lot of the 1st hotel I stay at.
Had it running and steped on the peg to throw a leg over and hit the shifter. lurched just enough to do a slow retraction of sidestand while I was still on the peg. No damage (Altrider bars, cariboo cases) had to really look to find a scuff mark. Was actually amazed who easy it was to lift back up (fully loaded!!!) Of course the embarassment adrenaline would have helped ::021::

A minimum ... absolute MINIMUM of sympathy for anyone headed for Baja. But ... let's be careful out there. R

No it wasn't today but it was defiantly the day before the last weekday before that day ... and it was easily five times that month, for sure-!! All in all my poor V Strom 650 has no more side fairings and dents in each side of the gas tank. Ouch. I have gotten much better of taking care of her since then, just saying.
My name is Dan ....

Dropped it twice now, which is more than the last five bikes combined!

On the left happened after a nearly five hour leg into a LD ride. Came to a stop at a gas pump and I can't tell if I forgot to put the sidestand down or it wasn't all the way and collapsed. Any crash bars are sacrificial and the SW-Motech bars did a good job, as the scratches you see here were the only damage (Aside from what is said below about the shifter and side stand, which they were never intended to protect.) With a little gloss black Rustoleum nobody will ever know, so I am pleased with the SW-Motech bars. btw - my son's dropped his WeeStrom twice on his set of SW-Motech bars and they've protected Suzi both times.

(The white on the black plastic is reflection, not damage.)

HOWEVER - - - -
Riding away, I could only go between neutral and first gear. The pavement was broken where it fell and a piece of concrete had bent the shift lever slightly inward, so it just caught under the alternator cover, as visible in the next photo. Don't think the bend would have happened if the concrete hadn't been so ragged. It bent back out easily enough with my Leatherman tool, but the shift lever is something to check if your bike falls to the left. At least it was malleable not to break off.

I was seriously thinking about cutting the stupid little tang on the kickstand and won't have to now, as it did break. Looks like it was designed to break at that spot.

Act 2 happened a couple of days later. I came to a stop on this sand as the bike was about to go down. It was leaning waaaaayyy over and I just couldn't muscle the thing from 45 degrees back up, so finally just let it fall. Zero damage and yes it's a heavy pig, but I was able to right it without unstrapping the bags to lower the cg.

Ummm, I mean, this is how I check the bottom of the skid plate. Yeaaah, that's what I meant!
:D

Not dropped it yet but come real close.

I got myself in a fix in Honfleur on a cobbled back street on a steep incline with negative camber .... my mate stopped suddenly in front of me whilst I was turning sharply and I was forced to brake hard and got wrong footed. Could hardly hold the bike and my foot was slipping on the damp cobbles. Luckily one of the lads riding pillion spotted my dilemma jumped off and ran to my assistance ... I was just about to give up and lay her down. That thing is heavy when you ain't expecting it.

We need that little stat under the avatar like what they got on STOwners (How many times you've dropped it).

Dropping a bike whilst bringing it off the centerstand .... is that common? I've never done it but I can see how it could happen.

I've not (yet) dropped the SuperT, but know it could happen when you least expect it!!

I didn't know you were on STO.

Dropping a bike whilst bringing it off the center stand is real easy. Just have the bike fully loaded, have your side stand down and then while sitting on it - rock forward off the center stand. When it comes of the center stand and the side stand makes hard contact with the ground, the impact will throw you off balance and over to the right. DAMHIK

One or both of us had to of been! Mine was on a trip to the right coast on my ST1300 back in about '06 or '07. The only time I ever dropped it.
