any one have any insight on which tires will come on the Tenere. Depending on tires delivered on bike, may be looking at buying a second set.

Thanks in advance

Should be BattleWings. I have them on my Strom now and like them so far for mostly street use.

Likely so. Most (all?) of the bikes you see in the publicity shots have BattleWings as well. I have used the predecessor (TrailWing) and consider it just "okay". Never ran the BattleWings, but figure it will be good enough for the first set of shoes.

Multiple people have told me that the Trailwings and Battlewings seemed good until they replaced them with something else. Then they realized that the bike's handling is better than they they had thought.

:D You can call them "break-in" tires because you can't push them as hard so you are gentler on the bike during the first 2 or 3 thousand miles!

That's the well-known "new tires are better tires" effect that you have to tune out if you want anything approaching objective tire reviews. As you get near tire replacement you gradually adapt to tires that suck, so anything you put on new miraculously is "night and day better" than what you took off.

In reality, there isn't much difference in front line tires these days within any given category. Some have somewhat different handling characteristics and they may make slightly different wear vs. grip tradeoffs, but they're all generally very very good. Take tire reviews (or ride reports) where someone says that a given tire is a lot better than another with a healthy dose of salt.

Battlewings are good tires as were the Trailwings I ran on my Strom.

The Yam rep at the DC Motorcycle Show told me they would be BattleWings. They have to be better than the TrailWings that came on both my Stroms. They were fine on pavement but did not handle a dirt road after rain very well. Like riding on ice when the state maintained, residential dirt road was wet. I have to think BattleWings are better than that.

I doubt it. My opinion is that all the 90-10 tires basically become slicks once the limited tread pattern packs with mud and it won't matter whether you're on Trailwings, Battlewings, Anakees, Tourances, or Scorpions. For wet dirt (i.e., mud) only an aggressive tread pattern will make any difference.

In moderate or more mud you are probably right. But I've had my Anakees on the same road in the same conditions and they have never been a problem. The TrailWings were particularly bad in that situation. That said, I would never trust my Anakees to do what even a basic knobbie could do.

Yep, there is a reason why they are called "90-10"! But then, that is most likely what my riding will be for the SuperT! :)

I hope Battlewings but if Ankees come on it I would be happy also. I had Battlewings on my strom and got 18k out of the front and 12k out of the back. They handled well in rain and dirt roads I felt.

I would prefer Anakees, but based on everyone's input here I guess if it comes with Battlewings I'll wear them out before swapping. Thanks for everyone's input.

Here is my blatant rip off of a cycle world funny...

Tires are the link between the ground and your bike...the ultimate farkle. The right or wrong tire can make all the difference in how much fun you have. I would rather invest in exactly the tire I wanted and never put on any miles on a tire I don't like. I remember when I switched from the stock tires on my Multistrada to Continental Road Attacks. It was like I got a new bike. Tires are very different and make the bikes handle differently. I kind of look at it as the ultimate customization of the bike to my tastes and riding style

Interesting that the only Yamaha in their matrix with a 19 inch front tire and a 17 inch rear tire is the "DL650 V-Strom?"??????
Looks like a typo to me. Should have been "XT1200Z Super Tenere"! :)
